Default $100 oil change

I just took my car into the dealership for the 7500 mile service. $108 later, I looked at the bill and realized that I paid for an oil change and "visual inspection". WTF?

That's a bit ridiculous, in my opinion. If I have the services done elsewhere, could it cause me potential problems down the road regarding warranty claims? Because I think the next service isnt going to be this cheap!

So long as you can prove that the scheduled maintenance was done (basically oil changes), the mfr can not deny you warranty coverage.

I only take my car to the dealership for major maintenance; typically at 30k mile intervals. The rest I do myself, since I generally don't trust others to do the work right.

Just do it yourself and keep a logbook and receipts. I had my car (MY00) in for 2 warantee issues, and my dealeship had no problems with it.

Yep...I do just about everything myself as well...Oil, tranny, diff, coolant...CV's, spindle nuts, half shafts...I do need to check out my valve spring retainers sometime for piece of mind though...but any adjustments and I'm going to want somebody who has done it before there.

the question is... when you took the car in, did you ask them to do a "7500 mile service" or a "7500 mile oil change".

just an oil change will not run you $100
