120k miles not km's, miles, is that too much?
Hi guys, I am on the lookout for a s2k for my nephew, he has a tight budget but has brought one to my attention, its on sale for 10,500 dollars and has 120,000 miles. What do you guys think? the car sounds and looks good, and pulls good, but I just wonder how much life is left b4 any major repairs for him...? No service records just the 2nd owners word. This is the highest mileage s2k I have seen and driven, its almost too good to be true.

Knowing nothing in particular about an S2000 with 120,000 miles on it, I would offer a couple of observations:
1. If treated properly, there's no reason why this motor shouldn't give lots of good service. You might want to have it tested for compression and/or leakdown before buying it.
2. $10,500 seems like a lot of money for an almost 10-year old car with 120,000 miles, which only cost around $30,000 to begin with. Even if it's in excellent cosmetic shape.
3. This is the old man in me speaking, but how old is your nephew? This car in the hands of the wrong 18-year old boy (and that's just about any 18-year old boy) is dangerous, to him and to those sharing the road with him. I love this car, but I wouldn't be giving it to a kid.

I would say here that many miles is worth 8k. You can get an '04 fairly easily for 16k around here with around 35k miles. 10.5k, I would think you could get an '02 with 60k+ miles for that around here.

Once you pass the 100k mark it goes down a few k's in price in my observations.
Also a good amount of s2000s are wrecked into/salvage titles lowering the price even more. If you are on a low budget, and carfax says it is a salvage, use that as a haggling point when negotiating the price.

Way over priced for that amount of miles. Seen ones with half the miles going for that amount these days. Horrible economy, winter and these cars prices have plummeted. Should be able to get that for like 9 grand at most I would say. It's sad being an owner of a high mileage S2K but the truth. Right now at least.

my s2 is already on 127,xxx. still running strong with proper maintenance done..for that much mileage for the s2 you're looking at even with a good body its worth between $6500-$9000 due to this economy. and no these are not salvage prices either. just helping you out.
