i've only had my car a few days, but feel the same way. 1st is anemic while the rest of the gears are ripping.

after reading a bit, i think the key to first gear is to drop it revved and let the tires smoke. don't think i want to do that too much (but maybe i do - tires and clutches can be replaced)
Try feathering the clutch instead of dumping it, work a good 5k launch.

I've only had my car since yesterday but I feel like first gear pulls really hard and I don't even shift into second until about 6k and that gets up on me pretty quick even while driving conservatively.

Ignore this advice, as pretty much any member on here for more than 6 months will tell you, feathering the stock clutch on a hard launch is a very bad idea.

Not sure what you mean by "tight" or "loose" for gearing, can you explain more what you mean?

The effect is in your head. It's because you don't start accelerating out of any other gear starting at 1k rpm like you do in 1st. When you first take off in 1st, you have several thousand RPMs where you're making no power. This doesn't happen on shifts to any other gear.
