1st post, going to test drive an 02 s2000 tomorrow
Just want to say hi to all and hopefully I'll be in an S2000 of my own soon. I've been snooping around the board for a few days trying to learn as much as I can since the car recently became available. While I've learned a lot I'm sure there's a lot more that I haven't. From what I can tell the car doesn't really have many known problem spots but any tips on things to look out for or pay special attention to would be greatly appreciated.
It's an 02 with 19k on it on and the owner is asking 19K for the car. I ran the VIN already and called the dealer where the car is serviced and the VIN checks out. The dealer said they performed the recall on the spark plug and regular oil changes. Also said there have been no TSB's performed and there are no open TSB's on it as well.

Welcome Spink,
That's a fair price. One thing to look for; put the top down and check if the driver's window automatically goes down all the way. This is a common problem caused by a faulty window regulator. I've got an 02 and that and the spark plug recall are the only things I've ever had to take care of, and both were taken care of under warranty. Ask to see service records and check the oil level/condition. If you buy it plan on changing all of the oils, engine, trans., and rear end. One more thing, check the tires. Either the original S-02s are totally worn out, or they've been replaced. Hopefully if they were replaced he doesn't have some cheap tires on it.
Good luck,
Markk

Thanks Markk,
So when I put the top down both windows are supposed to automatically roll down at the same time? If I have to have this repaired any idea what type of cost I'd be looking at since it's now out of warranty?
I've also been considering buying a warranty through Warrnty Direct. Any thoughts as to whether that'd be a wise investment for this car? Anybody else here done that before?

Yea both windows will go down when you press down the roof button. However when you put the roof back up the windows will stay down. I didnt do the warranty through the dealer and I had 40K on mine. I didnt feel it was worth it and pretty much the car has cost me next to nothing over the last 6 months. Just basic maintenance like oil changes. It may give you some peace of mind but just take care of it and do the maintenance recommended and the car will do just fine IMO. You will definitely not tire of it I itch to drive that car when I am always sitting at work

The advice Mark gave you about the tires is VERY important. Cheap tires on the AP1's can get you into trouble.
Good luck swinging the deal. If you get the car I'm sure you're going to enjoy it.
