The S2000 can't touch a Type-R on tight road courses, as its top end (from HP) cannot overcome its torque lag (and short burst acceleration).
As in Integra Type R?

Good article on the system - Read "The Future"

I think it gives a very good justification for the desireability of a larger and broader torque output. The S2000 can't touch a Type-R on tight road courses, as its top end (from HP) cannot overcome its torque lag (and short burst acceleration). Peace!
That's not really what they said in that article. They didn't want a slightly bigger F20C that still used regular VTEC because that still gives only two different cam profiles and still gives a relative dead area right below 6000 RPM. They want i-VTEC which will allow the F20C to have a better torque curve even without a displacement increase. There's a difference and we will have to see what happens with the new design, but I doubt it will be as tractable as if they had redone the engine to use i-VTEC.

Uh... road courses don't come any tighter than autocrosses, and S2000s are decidedly quicker than Type Rs at autocross...
