Oh, I entirely agree - I believe that if Honda changes the engine displacement, the name should change too. However, my understanding of the original post of this thread is that the issue isn't the name, it's that changing the displacement of the engine somehow changes the car's focus.

I don't believe that to be the case.

Elistan:

I'm sorry you did not understand my point. I FULLY welcome a increase in power or a changes for the good of the platform.
AS LONG AS THEY DON'T CHANGE THE ORIGINAL INTENT OF THE CAR!!!!!!!

The "rumors" that have been floating around are: (please feel free to add more if there are more)

1. 10-15 hp increase w/ .2L
2. 10-15 lbs. tq increase w/.2L
3. Lowering redline 500-1000 rpm
4. Headrest speakers
5. 17 inch factory rims
6. Factory hardtop
7. Tiptronic transmission
8. Re-designed dash
9. New gears
10. i-vtec head

Please (ANYONE) tell me how (even if only the best changes come true) 10-15 hp/tq increases are going to off set the possible/probable weight increase and produce a car that is more enthusiastic/classic than the present S2000. I also hope that the price stays the same.

None of these are major changes. They are "wet band aids" to try to keep sales up. They mainly address problems that non-owners have rather than present owner. (THIS IS MY OPINION)

I would hope to see a MAJOR platform change rather than a "spit shine". Want a "spit shine" by a Mustang. Ford's been doing this for 20 plus years. Present Mustang GT's are great cars, just not a CLASSIC.

I have grown up with a few of those Garage Queens that paS2K mentioned, and I have always loved analog gauges. Before I bought the S2000 I was actually thinking the S2000 gauge configuration would be something that I would have to get used to, oh how wrong could I have been! I love the digital speed and the color arch for RPMs!!! The idea of that not being in the S would seem to me to be a major departure from the S2000 theme!

I would however not be bothered by the addition of a few more gauges than the standard Honda Gas and Coolant Temp only....

My apologies. With "2.2L" in your title and your post about "this" and "these changes," it wasn't clear to me what you were addressing.

I entirely agree - if they come out with a 3000 or even 2900 pound car, even with more hp and torque, I'm going to be severely disapointed.

But we truly have no idea what's going to be done for the '04 model. Until my MY00 falls apart, I'm not going to worry about it anyway.

(But if Honda came out with a true Type R version, I'll be first in line. )

Progress is a good thing.

Who cares whether this car is named S2000 or S2200?

Isn't it about performance, cost, and aestehtic appeal?

You forgot to mention the other part of the rumor. There is a possibility that the S2200 might be produced as an Acura.

One thing about it, If you have a 00-03 and the 04- suck than the value of your car will tend to increase. I know the value of my 00 civic Si increased when the new redesigned ones came out. When I totaled it the insurance company took the desire for it into consideration and gave me more than I paid for it.

I think Brushman's original point, and a very good one at that, was that as cars change they tend to grow and lose their focus. The fear is that the S2000 may evolve the same way that the Datsun/Nissan 240Z did. What started out as a single minded, focused car grew, and changed. In the course of its life the original purpose was long forgotten and the end result was much different then the original concept.

I don't think Brushman is suggesting that there be no change and no progress, but I do agree that there is a great and dangerous tendency to lose focus and meaning as the car grows.
