I think the main purpose of a multi-piece top (for me anyway) would be the much improved single person remove and replace feature this option would afford S2000 owners.
Like myself, all S owners do not have the luxury of a garage with the special hoist to perform this little job single handedly.
I'm going to purchase the hardtop within the next few months and have the very strong feeling that once the top is in place on the car, there will be very few times it will come off. Flexability was the point I was trying to make.
Ideally I think the car needs a hardtop convertible roof. Mazda just came out with this on their new Miata. And while I generally don't care for Miata's (not enough power) I do think the drop top hard top version looks great. I recall it only added 70 lbs to the weight of the car and fits in the same space that the normal convertible cloth roof would occupy.
I think this would allow people to achieve the best of both worlds. 29,000 miles of headroom when its sunny out and a hard roof for when the weather isn't favorable, all available at the push of a button.

While thinking about hardtops and the hassle of having to store it when wanting to go top down, I was thinking, "What about a 2-piece HT?"
By 2-piece, I mean the ability to remove the roof area only, with the back sides and window still in place. Think T-Top, and that's what I was picturing.
What do you guys think? If I can get my hands on a fairly inexpensive used HT, I may consider this experiment!
What do the fellow S drivers think? Discuss....
I think a few pictures would help me decide. If it is going to make the car a lot more heavy then flat out No.
