xviper, any way to get at those CV boots without lifting the car? I was at a friend's house and decided to do them, but didn't want to work without a proper jack stand. Fronts are okay, but rears were unreachable.

Hmm, does track use count as "normal" driving then? There's nothing about constant high-rpm, high lateral-g, weight transfer mentioned in the schedule. Although the 'Ring does have 17% grades, so that would count as mountainous stretches.

Ah okay, I'll try that when I'm at the 'Ring tomorrow.

Okay if "tracking" is severe, what do you think about Autobahn driving? It's not a constant speed 200+ blast most of the time, instead there's plenty of braking, slowing down for trucks, trudging at 60 through construction, and speeding up as well as plenty of VTEC time.

Get this, most new European cars specify 15-30 thousand km oil change intervals! Everyone follows this "normal" schedule as well, and people think I'm nuts to do the "severe" schedule for my cars.

Wow...I give you guys a lot of credit in the passion you take maintaining your own cars. I lease 3yr/36K periods so I can always be under Honda warranty. (My local dealer does oil changes for $12). At 36K, I turn it in and pickup a new one. I'm on my 5th new Honda.

To me it's a headache...to you guys it's a labor of love.

informative thread though

Does this manual tell you things like how you fix certain components in the car?

Yes, it is very comprehensive. You can virtually take the car apart and put it back together again.
However, it won't tell you the answer to questions like the following:
"I have this tinging noise under the right side of the car when the engine is at idle. What do you think this could be?"
