Default 2000 s2000

Do you guys know if any problems with 2000 s2000. I know abut the clutch buzzing, anything eles?
The past couple s2000's i have test drove at dealerships (2000year) had rough transmissions. The engine was warm but idk about the trans temp. It was Not like grinding every gear or not able to get into gear. But it just felt kind chunky if thats the right word. Is that just that years characteristics?
my friends 2008 base civic has a perfect trans.
Thanks for your help guys

im not sure about the specific problems with that MY, but as far as the trans being "clunky", thats normal. i wouldnt rescribe it as that though. its not gonna be silky smooth. as long as its not grinding or hard to get into gears, i wouldnt worry about it. comparing an civic trans to an s2000 trans doesnt really work. two different animals. to ease youre mind, find a dealer with a new or newish S2000, and take a test drive. if that feels smoother than yours, try changing your trans fluid with honda mtf, or gm synchro mesh. hope this helps.

UPDATE: Bought the s2k talking about above and its great! transmission felt better then most others but thats prob because he drove an hour before meeting me.
What are some things i should do to help prevent problems in the future. So far i am going to buy 303 top protector then change oil with moble 1.

I would defiantly change the transmission fluid you can't go wrong with the honda MTF. I would also change the rear differential fluid I used the Mobile1 75/90 weight. You might want to also look at changing and bleeding the clutch and brakes. There are DYI's on all of these things.

Congratualtions on the car. You won't be disappointed.

Post up if you have questions.

I've read about s2000s and their "clunky" transmissions. What exactly does this mean? I keep reading about how amazing the gearbox is and such, so I'm just wondering how come so many people are complaining about it?

I think i might have figured it out. I have only driven 4 s2000's in the past month and have owned one for..1 day LOL but basically i think their transmissions are clunky until warmed up. They also shift well at high rpm. It seems to be the low rpm and cold trans is clunky.

If you are going to do it yourself it's not bad. I think the MTF is $4-5 per quart. You need two quarts. If you do the stuff yourself most of the items are not that expensive.

Are your tail light corners faded to pink or almost clear like mine? If so they can be replaced under recall. You can pm me for more info on this if you need. Also I remember reading about a potential spark plug problem but don't remember the specifics. I have also read that the '00s run quite rich, which might limit performance slightly but I think is probably a good thing for reliability. Hope that helps. BTW, my tranny is also very noisy, especially with the top up at low rpm in 2nd-3rd gears. It is hard to disregard as normal but you have to remember that we are literally sitting right on top of it + the rigid chassis.

I knew about the tail light issue, and made sure my car did not have that. But i had no idea bout the spark plug problem!?!?!?! As far as running rich, if it helps for reliability i am glad lol. Illl take a LITTLE performance off to help with reliability.
Can anyone help me and 21337R with figuring out what the "spark plug problem"is?
