A friend of mine manages a Honda Dealership and says that he will be getting less S2000's for 2001 than 2000. He also went on to say they did not order any yellow for their dealerships just blk and silver In their opinion yellow would be a flop and they feared a discount would have to be applied to move the car(in other words they could not mark it up as much) I disagreed....Just another example of how certain dealerships have no clue how to use this car as a marketing tool for themselves and are just concerned about making a couple extra hundred bucks. He then went on to tell me how they were not taking orders on Oddesey's just getting them in loading them up and raping people on them, also how disappointed they were in the response and sales of the hybrid electric(forgot the name sorry) In closing I have purchased between my company and personal 11 vehicles from this dealership over the past 8 years and could not get the S2000 for under 39k. Obviously I purchased my stook somewhere else as well as 2 other cars since.

I had my weekly conversation with my dealer yesterday to hound him about my VIN number (none yet) and delivery date, and we had a few laughs together. I asked him if his allotment for 2001s was already sold and he said it was. But it is lower. He got 15 last year, but was allotted only 9 for MY 2001, although he thinks he'll eventually get more.

Given your purchase record, I can't believe your dealer wouldn't sell you the S2K at MSRP. I've only bought two Hondas in five years from mine, but he has policy to sell S2Ks to existing customers at MSRP.

Rick

I recently talked with the General Manager of a local Honda dealership that has been very fair to me in the past. The dealership is known for dealing straight with the customer and offering some of the best deals on new cars. I left a deposit there on an S2K for June '00 delivery at MSRP, but couldn't wait, and got my car for a little more in January. Even he admitted that allocations had been reduced for MY '01, and explained that it was due to the revised distribution of cars, not that fewer were going to be produced. Apparently the many, small dealerships were allocated only a car or two last year, and their increased allotments were made up by decreased allocations to the fewer larger volume dealers.

When I asked about their '01 allotment, he said that all 11 cars that they were expecting were pre-sold!

We did have a source on the board that claimed AHM connections that predicted 'over 7500 units' in the US back in '99 when most were still stuck on the 5000 number. So he was right on that count. He predicted back then fewer units in the US for MY2001 (as does a different source on the email list).

Clearly we won't have the push of an extra 2000 units at the introduction, and that could account for the estimates of lower production for this year.

My dealer got two MY2000's and two MY2001's. He's sold the first three at MSRP and has a Spa Yellow coming in January '01 that's not yet spoken for.

I think the only reason I got the VIN# is that my dealer called AHM to see about the delay from the 23 August build date AND I asked the dealer to get me a VIN# so I could beat Rick to the punch <s>.

By the way, ebay has a '00 S2000 Silver/Black with 2200 miles and no accessories other than floor mats. It is from a used car dealer in Boulder, CO. I called and asked. They have it priced at $40,000 used but would "negotiate" ie they would take about $37,000 for it. I think they PAID over sticker!

I stopped at my dealer today and I still have no VIN # or Delivery date! My sales guy said it looks like sometime in November! I am disappointed but I had my expectations set to November/December anyway. Sales guy said maybe I'll get the VIN # next week sometime....I'm not holding my breath. At least my White 2001 S2000 will match the season.......SNOW!
