It sounds about right dude. Why bother buying a project car though? Move along.
I do not have 14-16k to spend on a car right now. also i figured that if i spend the time to fix it up, it will become unique to me and i will love the car by the end.

in other words, it feels so much better when you fix up a car then buying one completely fixed.
In the long run it's the same price. There will be a cost to doing it yourself. If you have more time than money, your answer has been made.

I probably wouldn't touch this car for anything more than the track. Not well maintained by owner means there are going to be other things.

agree here.

If the paint and body and top are not in good shape, chances are that other things weren't done, too. Don't underestimate paint and body. People on here all the time are like "that quarterpanel and bent frame are $500 tops"...yea, maybe for some joker with a rattle-can and a hammer. Good painting for a body panel is about $500 per panel.

i'm getting the internals checked out by a mechanic, complete check of everything.

if that comes out good should i still go for it? looks aren't exactly my biggest worry.

The answer is obviously no... like the other guy said if the car is that f@#ked on the outside the person didn't seem to give a shit about taking 1-2 hours out of their time to do minor detailing then why would they spend $$ and even more time to keep up basic maintenance. I guess if you can get the price down

Not one person in here has told you this sounds like a good investment. But your mind's made up, you keep pushing forward. I for the life of me can't understand why people make investments they can't afford. If the only way to get keys into a particular car, is by digging through the bottom of the barrel, you should be looking at other cars.

I suppose it's only a matter of time 'til we get another of these threads: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/982...ild-went-sour/

i simply wanted an opinion from people who knew about the car. every problem that was presented in this thread i checked out, i don't plan on changing anything in the engine like that dude. if you could actually explain to me why you feel it is a bad investment instead of scolding me then i would actually respect what you have to say.

there is some clutch buzz and the clutch is worn, has never been changed. i figure i have about 10-20k miles left on if it i rev-match and double clutch and not beat it to death. i plan on changing it a month or two after i buy it if i do.
