My car has a slight nochy feeling on the 2-3 shift. My friends with an older Civic and another one with a newer Prelude have nochy 2-3 shifts. I am not too worried yet.

I have 15000 miles on my 02 and I don't have this problem. I normally shift from 2nd to 3rd using just my right hand thumb.

I haven't noticed the 3rd gear notchiness - But I have only driven the car for about 30 miles!!!!

Oh and when I start from a stop - it makes a groan but no scratching - I think it's the power going through the propeller shaft and then through the lsd!?

The problem exist with 2001 models so I guess they haven't fixed the problem with 2002 models i.e. if it is a considered a problem

I believe its normal, at least for many of the cars. I had it in my 2001. However, after 8,000 miles of careful shifting 2-3 shifts are now generally notch free ( I suspect its bedded in properly now). Anyways, here's my notes of the topic -- which I've posted before. The notes cover all model years.

1 SHIFTING
Technical Service Bulletin 00-055 (Transmission/Driveline) for Grinding When Shifting into 2nd Gear. Honda says this applies for certain

Just drove my yellow '02 off the showroom floor a week ago. I'm loving it, but I've noticed the 2nd-3rd notch problem as well. Judging by the previous postings, it appears that no one has successfully gotten the dealer to fix this. Is there a fix? It sure is annoying.

I get the groan too, and it surprised me more than the notchiness in 3rd gear. I also think it's caused by the LSD.
