2002 Corvette vs. S2000
Why can't we just accept that this is two different ways to have fun. Each has there own highs and lows.
Pushrods work just fine and makes for nice compact packaging in a vee engine.. it is also easier and cheaper to make power with displacement than the complications of high rpm.
BTW, I do not think there are any special tariffs on imported automobiles that meet all US standards.. that is one reason foreign makes compete easily here.
I would sure like a C5(Z06) and space for it to go with my S2000. I think the Z06 is an amazing deal with supercar performance at reasonable prices.

The vette is a serious machine - especially the Z06 - but no matter how much horsepower, or how many power gizmos they stick in that thing it's still a V8 - a mass produced V8...
The quality and craftsmanship that has gone into the S2000 is pretty hard to beat and you won't find that in a corvette. There are a few guys here at work that have 94' & 95' vettes and complain of quality problems. Don't envision that happening with the S2000.

(2) Who needs power seats? I move mine like once a month to vacuum behind them.

Guess you have not had a S2000 for long. A good number of them spend a lot of time in the shop and have chronic ailments no different than Corvettes.

Not to say that the S2000 is defect-free, but I believe that this is very much a function of how you treat the vehicle. Have a professor who has had his since 2000 and never once had a problem with any aspect of the car (normal day-to-day driving). While I work with a guy that has had his vette for 3 years and has been experiencing some trouble with starter electrical problems and rattles in the interior - basically the overall integrity of the car is pretty suspect (GM junk
). As far as I know he also drives his car in normal day-to-day fashion (when his wife lets him have the keys
)
I have only had my S2000 for 1 month and 4 days with no problems - but then again I don't plan on sidestepping the clutch at 7k.

You're comparing apples and oranges here. Two different cars; so many differences. If the S had all those "goodies" that seem to make the Vette so desirable, it would weigh another 500 pounds and cost another ten grand, at least. Corvettes demand a higher premium when it comes to insurance, as well.
Corvettes in my neighborhood - 13 (that I know of and have seen in garages...)
S2000's in my neighborhood - 1 (mine)
Buying a Corvette would feel too much like fulfilling some blue collar dream rather than getting an exotic automobile.
Thats not surprising considering we are so close to Bowling green that in about an hour+1/2 you can drive down there and pick your Corvette up right off the assembly line...or even watch it being made (though trust me...you don't want to see it being made... I have and it just lowers your overall impression of the car's quality- especially when you see 6 or 7 of them lined up on the 'failure' side, waiting to "have some chewing gum put in the right spot")
IMO, the Corvettes lost a lot of style in their modern design. 71/72 models are some of the best looking. But of course, the modern vettes with fuel injection will easily smoke them. I think the overall look of the car is more important to me than how quick I can get to Def Leppard dismemberment speeds.
The Corvette museum in Bowling Green is an amazing place though. The engines they have on display are just mind blowing. One is a 600HP Twin Turbo. And the best thing is the mid-engined Corvette prototype that never went into production...it really does look like a super car.
