2002 Corvette vs. S2000

And Z06 can be bought for less than 50k (before tax & fees).. I was offered $2500 under
MSRP just by "asking over PM msg" at Z06vette board. Also Z06 having all those amentities
does not really weight a whole lot at 3100lb since they included a titanium exhaust & various
lightweight materials like aluminum (used to be magnesium) wheels and alumunium sway
links (I'm sure there's more)... It also has bigger trunk space.. 13cuft vs 5 for the S2000?
However, I do like the styling of S2000.. but vette can't look all that bad, it looks so simlar to
RX-7's and NSX's...

GSX210HP,
What suspension setup did you dad buy the vette with?
I think there's few suspension options... basic (soft) and Z51 (much stiffer).
If your dad got the basic one, it could probably explain why it rides like a boat.

it's a $300 option.

To be honest, I don't know what suspension package he got - I'm not sure he knows either! He only called me like 4 hours before he had to go and pick it up - and forget about asking the very clueless salesman - he didn't even know what kind of sound system the car had!!! I'm sure this weekend I'll get a more in depth look at the beast, since this all happened at night. I was too busy trying to figure out all of the controls for him, since the clueless salesman didn't bother to show him anything at all!!
I'm surprised this thread of mine got so big - and let me tell all of ya, I know that there's a reason why you all got s2000's over things like vettes and M3's and Audi TT's - Hands down the S2000 excells in 3 important categories - rarity, bang for the buck and performance. There's nothing on the road now that can match the S2000 for the price. The only thing close is the upcomming Nissan Z - and to tell you the truth, I think that the Z looks promising, but Nissan shot their load with the 300 ZX turbo for this country. They put it out to pasture too soon - and the fact that they couldn't bring the Skyline over is rediculous. I hear it may be coming over here like next year, but too little too late - we needed it back in 96 when they canned the 300ZX - To me, all of the mid 90's classics - the 300ZX, the RX7, the Mitsu 3000GT VR4, and the Supra, which my dad had from 94-2001 - they were unique and i don't think anything can replace them. The S2000 came out at the right time and for the right price - I hope they don't can it like the others did with their cars. I mean who cares if sales were low on them - that's supposedly the reason why they were discontinued. They should have still kept them around - I know people like us would have considered buying or leasing one of them today. The S2000 is very unique in its own way and I think that Honda picked up the gauntlet after the other car companies gave up with their supercars. I can only hope that the new versions of these mid 90's supercars can live up to their predecessors. As for the S2000, I can only hope that Honda will keep it around - we don't want to lose another supercar for the lineup.

hehe... that might be true some of the time, but its not true ALL of the time...
case in point, see my post above... my Vette was the "friendly" Chevy dealer once, for something not related to anything except for something getting on the glass during shipping...
Put it this way... the Honda service department knew my first and last name and phone number when I walked in... The Chevy guys only knew my first name...

I visit both Vette (though just the Z06 one) & S2000 board often... I really dont see alot
of big problems.. maybe there's plenty but small repairs???? None of them cry out that
their car has been in the shop for long time for big problems (maybe i missed it)??
But I do see alot of visit and revisits of Honda dealer for clutch & tranny problems here...
Now, I can live with little eletrical glitches here and there... but tranny grinding problems??
I really hope that they fix it for 2002... any 2002 here experience the problem yet?
(I hope not)
To me S2000 and Vette are in totally different class... performance or prestige... (Vette being
a notch higher in both, of course)
Also... there's really nothing wrong with big displacement, low rev, low tech V8... I think if Honda
got the choice they would probably do the same (Japan charges extra tax for displacements)...
Here's a post I asked on this board a while back...

GSX210HP,
I agree with what you said about S2000 here..
Well, except rarity.. Where I live, I see S2000 way more often than Vettes.. I see more new M3's
than Vettes here (unless I go toward West).
As for the bang for the buck, we'll see how S2000 match up in the coming years when RX-8, WRX
STi, LanEvo7 and 350Z are released...

Check the Jan 2001 Road and Track
The Z06 boxed the ears of the S2000 and just about everthing else at Thunderhill.
I was going to get a C5, but it felt really large while driving. The tidier dimensions
of the S2000 suited me better. But there is no doubt the Z06 kicks a LOT OF ASS
