Default 2002 Mileage

I am about to pull the trigger on an '02 with 65k miles for $16k. Just wanted to get some opinions on whether this is a good deal or if I should be scared of the high mileage. I know its a Honda, but its also a sports car so things may be slightly different. Thanks.

Sounds like a good buy, though I might advise you take it to a dealership and pay them to put it on the rack and look it over. Normally this costs less than a $100 and is well worth it.

Well I will be buying it from out of state and having it shipped. But I am including a condition of payment to be a full inspection upon receiving the car. If something doesn't check out he gets the car back at his expense. (Owner says car is perfect, so he should have nothing to worry about) Carfax of the car is perfect, so I'm not expecting big problems.

Would you guys know how much in general a clutch replacement would be? I don't think he has replaced it, so I'm assuming it will have to be done soon. Thanks again.

Seems like a good deal to me. I agree with the above about checking it out. As a seller, I'd have trouble agreeing to your terms no matter what the condition of the car was. I'd be afraid that the buyer might flake and send the car back at my expense regardless of the condition.

You might consider hopping a plane and driving it home if its not terribly far. You'll save a little money probably and get to check the car in person.

Otherwise, it sounds like the price is right

I agree that I would love to check the car out first. But its in colorado and don't have the time now to fly out and drive back. The only reason I am even willing to do this site unseen is because people are asking much more here in the Bay Area. S2Ks are going for thousands more here than anywhere else in the country. Would you guys be willing to buy it site unseen under any circumstances?

I would not agree to those terms if I were the seller. There are too many things that can go wrong, too many potential expenses that might be incurred, and all power is in the buyer's hands. But, if you can get him to agree to those terms, then more power to ya.

It sounds like a decent deal. I wouldn't worry about the mileage. 65k miles isn't that much for a '02. It's relatively high compared to some of the garage queens out there, but it's not too terrible for a daily driven car. I have 87k miles on my '02 and it's still doing just fine.

Honestly, I'd wager the Bay Area sellers are posting some "pie in the sky" prices and aren't getting that many bites. I tried selling my car last year and the market didn't exactly seem very hot to me. I don't know about the lower mileage cars, but buyers, as you already know, are very wary of the higher mileage ones. Mine had 69k miles on it at the time and it was a tough pitch.

I'd try getting one locally if possible... Try throwing different offers at the sellers, if they're motivated enough they'll eventually bite. Everyone is going to start off asking a high price. That changes after a few weeks or months.

Btw, I still want to sell mine if you're interested in something even cheaper but with higher mileage. Good luck man.

I've been looking for a little while and even with winter coming up the prices are too high. And no one was willing to come down at all. We're talking MY00 with 70k miles going for $17.5k-18k. Even salvage title cars are going for 16-17. It really is ridiculous compared to everywhere else.

Anyone have experience with asking the seller to get an inspection at your expense before buying? All problems would have to be disclosed and the inspection documentation included with the car. I would pay for the inspection regardless of buying the car or not. This seems like a more reasonable request to me.

If it were my $16,000, I'd absolutely drive it first. YMMV
