I've been looking for a little while and even with winter coming up the prices are too high. And no one was willing to come down at all. We're talking MY00 with 70k miles going for $17.5k-18k. Even salvage title cars are going for 16-17. It really is ridiculous compared to everywhere else.

Anyone have experience with asking the seller to get an inspection at your expense before buying? All problems would have to be disclosed and the inspection documentation included with the car. I would pay for the inspection regardless of buying the car or not. This seems like a more reasonable request to me.
I'd let mine go for less than that, except it has 87k miles. Anyway, you've got PM.

About getting an inspection done at the buyer's expense, that definitely sounds more reasonable and doable. When I was shopping cars, some of the sellers were open to doing this. IMO it depends mostly on whether they have something else to drive in the meantime.

Have him take it to a Honda dealership at your expense and have the inspection results faxed to you. Sounds like a very good deal though, maybe you could ask one of the CO S2k guys to check it out and give it a drive. I know I'd do it for free if the car were near me, but a few $$$ always is nice for the time and effort.

Ive seen Salvage ones go for 13k , and several in the LA area around 15k-20k

I am also looking for a low cost S2000, as a second car.
I dont want to have to borrow money to buy a toy, even if its a toy i will be driving half the week

Exactly, have another s2ki member drive it for you and check it out. I did that with a car in Dallas before flying up from san antonio to test drive and purchase it. The other member drove it, took pics of it, checked all the vin numbers, etc., then reported back to me. Based on his review, I was pretty comfortable flying up and driving it back, but i was still prepared to walk away.

He offered to do it for free, but I sent him a $50 GC to his favorite restaurant as a thank you.

I got my s2k w/ 34k miles for $19.5k and I live in the bay area. You just have to wait for some good deals to show up.
