2002 Radio Code question
Hi everyone,
Picking up a 2002 S2K in Atlanta tomorrow, seller installed a new battery rendering the oem radio useless - he does not have the code. Says it was never provided to him...all fine and good except I have to drive 8+ hours home to Indianapolis - no way Im doing that without tunes.
Anyways- I have spoken with 2 dealers - one says it will take 10min to get the serial number, pull code and enter for free. Other dealer says they charge 1 hour to remove radio as serial code is on the back of the radio, then pull code and enter.
Just wondering what it actually involves to see which dealer is being truthful. It sure seems like #1 is or is at least trying to earn my business but they are much further away from where I will be than dealer #2.
Thanks,
Sam

you have to pull the radio to get the serial number, but 1 hour charge is rediculous.
just do it yourself.
take a screwdriver or something pokey and take the entire radio panel assembly out (they have 2 screws inside and it's connected by clips around).
take the radio out, look at the serial code, give it to the dealership, they give you a yellow card with the radio code, you stick that in the secret compartment or glove box.
it takes 10 minutes to do all this, so I would say dealer #1 is the way to go.
dealer #2 just want your money.

There's a code or sequence you can type in that will give you an 8 digit number. You then call a dealer with that number and they can give you the 5 (i think) digit radio code.
I can't remember the sequence...I found it here somewhere back when I needed it, I'll look around and see if I can find it again. But don't pull the radio if you don't have to.

EDIT
Wow, there's lots of threads of people looking for radio codes.
When the radio is asking for the code, hold down the 1 and 6 simultaneously for a few seconds. It should display a letter (might be an A) and 4 numbers (these are the first 4 digits of your radio serial number) and then another letter (B?) and 4 numbers (these are the second 4 digits of the radio serial number).
Then call the dealer with the serial number and they can give you the 5 digit radio unlock code.
Alternatively, there's probably a sticker inside the glove box, trunk, hidden compartment, ash tray, or anywhere else hidden, that has the radio serial number on it (not the code). Try looking around for an 8 digit number.
Good luck...maybe this can be posted in a DIY section or something as a sticky??

To the OP...
Before ripping your dash apart or using a stealership please check inside the trunk-lid and also inside the door(s) of the glove box. There may be a small, white, rectangular sticker with the radio code on it.
Not a promise but if its there it will save you a lot of hassle.

this really did work... atleast on my MY 2002 it did... after the battery was changed and the radio displayed "code"... turn off the radio, press 1 and 6 together, then turn on the radio... atleast on a MY 2002, it displays the 8 digit "Serial Number" in 2 flashes just like described above....
Take this # to the dealer and they will give you the code...
Also, coincidentally, i found the "sticker" in my glove box... but the sticker had the Serial Number for the radio... not the Code itself...
