2002 S2000 Red - Should I repaint?
#11
For me, 10 vins and original paint tells me the car hasn't been wrapped around a pole and painted by a PROFESSIONAL body shop. Scrapes, dings and patina, I can live with. Even a perfect car gets bruises if it's driven. Save yourself the money and enjoy your car. Leave perfect for the garage queens.

"Value" is only what you sell the car for not what you think you can. All 10 VINs are only important because there are so many undamaged original paint S2000s available that if searching for one in the best condition missing VINs are a red flag.
Good example (above) of a car with only 9 VIN tags: Car was "wrecked" (note the quotes ) and the fender had to be replaced -- was all the other damage repaired? Sellers are notorious for not revealing things that detract from their asking prices. Missing or overpainted VIN tags are a tiny red flag perhaps but are still a discriminator like the difference between better and best. Comparing the S2000 to a Ferrari is specious. Any common car like the S2000 that needs a repaint is unlikely to ever command higher prices -- "value," remember? -- from knowledgeable buyers.
Lots of discriminators which may or may not be important to future buyers. Debadging; aftermarket suspension, wheels, or exhaust; all season tires; generic oil filter; forced induction even if removed; the list goes on.

Do not repaint your car. It is nearly impossible to duplicate the factory paint process and achieve as durable or as nice of a finish.
To do the job right requires extensive assembly, which most shops are not equipped to do. And even good shops will rarely put things together again perfectly. It is infuriating to see an original survivor stripped and repainted in a misguided pursuit of perfection. Originality is king.
Get a detail, do some touch-ups, and be done.
