Default 2003 S2000

Hi,

I'm new to the Board so excuse me it this has been discussed before.

Last weekend I test drove a 2002 S2000. I'm considering getting one for my daily driver to replace my 96 Z3. It was fun to drive but I was a bit disappointed with the lack of low rpm torque. A friend told me he heard that a new engine was on the way, possibly in 2003. Is there any truth to this?

TIA

I don't know that anyone can tell you what the 2003 will or will not have. It took the majority of this year in order to accurately find out what the 2002 was going to have!

I would doubt a new engine is on the way. Even if it were I don't think it would make this thing a torque monster. That is not what this car was designed to be.

If you like torque, I think you should wait for the 2003 new Z3 3.0. New design.
Thanks, but I don't like the new Z3. I like the S2000 but don't want to get an 02 if they are upgrading the engine in 03.

it would be cool if Honda added another 30hp or so and make the s2000 around 270 hp and made the car 200lbs lighter. we will all see next year if this will happen

It's never been discussed, mentioned or rumored. The S2000 is shrouded in secrecy, nothing gets out until the car does. Somebody had to actually buy a 2002 model before we could be sure it had a glass rear window. Unless you friend works for AHM and some high level it's just conjecture at this point. If there is any news about the 2003 then your likely hear it here first.

Are you collecting or something? Why would you want a Boxster S and an S2000? They are nearly identical performance wise.

I like 2-seat roadsters . The S2000 seems like a great bargin and is something I would enjoy commuting to work in. My drive is through Santiago Canyon... no freeways. I like the Z3 but it is getting tired (106K miles). While I agree that the S2000 and Boxster S are similar performance wise, they drive and handle differently IMHO. What peaked my interest in the S2000 was seeing a club a few weeks ago running the opposite direction from us in the Malibu Hills while we were doing a Southern California Boxster Group run. I sat in one for the first time last weekend and really liked the interior. The test drive was fun (took it to 9K a couple of times on a car with only 14 miles on it), but I did miss the slap in the back torque at throttle tip in. Of course I was driving the Viper that day so I probably was a bit spoiled in that department.

Thanks for the input on the 03. I thought maybe someone might have some inside info. Enjoy your car... I can understand your enthusiasm... especially you superchared owners

I could be wrong but isn't Honda's trend to change things (drastically like engine or body design) every four years or so?
