2003 S2000

Somebody had to actually buy a 2002 model before we could be sure it had a glass rear window. Unless you friend works for AHM and some high level it's just conjecture at this point. If there is any news about the 2003 then your likely hear it here first.
Are you collecting or something? Why would you want a Boxster S and an S2000? They are nearly identical performance wise.

sure faster than Z3s.
>>hey now...if he wants an S2000, let him get an S2000 sure faster than Z3s.<<
'Course.
Here a review of the present Z3 3.0...Performance tests show that this new 3.0 is significantly quicker than the 2.8. In several runs from a standstill to 60 mph, the BMW averaged 5.69 seconds, with one run at 5.31 seconds backed up with a 5.45. That's a half a second quicker than the 2.8. Using only third gear, the 3.0 could run from 50-70 mph in just 3.34 seconds and up a steep grade only slowed it 3.0 to 4.59 seconds. Using second and third gear would have cut these times by at least two tenths of a second. The new 3.0 performance levels are near identical (it's only a couple of ticks behind) to the M version which uses a 3.2L engine of 240 hp.
The same guy found that an S2k could do 50-70 in 3rd in just over 4 seconds and in 3.3 seconds using 2nd and 3rd gears. Very comparable, except that the Z3 has much more low end action.

Sorry to upset you guys about taking a new car to redline. But the salesperson riding with me told me to do so. He probably guessed I was looking for power from the car I was driving. He was an enthusiast and former racer and explained to me how the car comes on the cam around 6500 rpm.
Hi,
My first trip in a S, was on the passenger seat, with the chief mechanic from the dealer by the steering wheel. And he also VTEC,ed a few times in the demo car, which was his bosse's brand new private car !

Take my opinion for what it's worth, but let me give you a little background. A bunch of us whackjobs went to Tokyo in June, where we met with 2 of the engineer leads on the S2000 project from Honda. We also met the 2 S2000 project engineers from Mugen. We spoke at length with them about many things. They assured us that there are no major changes in store for the S2000. This is further evidenced by the MY 02 changes that took place...nothing major, mostly cosmetic things to "fancy" things up a bit.
No new engine is planned for the S2000, unless they were kidding us. I wouldn't rule it out at some point down the road, but holding your breath for it next MY probably isn't a good idea...as I don't think it will happen.
And yea, I too am a little disturbed that a salesman let you redline it...I think that sucks. But I'm not blaming you, I'd probably do the same thing! It just sucks that the owner of that car will never know that it wasn't broken in properly...
My only advice would be to buy the car, but buy it for what it is...a remarkably handling, high tech machine...not for what it MAY be in the future (and that is conjecture, at best)
