Is a 2004-2005 S2000 doomed to have tranny issues?

Would this cause more wear on the 2nd gear syn? (Although the car is not moving?)

*I did get the 2nd gear-popping-out TSB fix in 04. And sometimes the shifter does not engage to the 2nd gear in first try recently*
Yes, it will likely wear the syncro more but no one can say by how much.

It would be better practice to come to a complete stop while holding the clutch disengaged for enough time to slow/stop the input and countershaft from spinning. Then shift into first. You'll find the right timing by varying when you shift into first, and after a certain period of time after pressing in the clutch it should be a nice, smooth engagement.

This is assuming your trans fluid and hydraulic fluid are both in good shape and there is no air in the hydraulic system.

Probably no more than using 1st the most out of any gear.

Unless you use the method I posted above, where the first gear syncro will get little-to-no wear.

I have an 05 with 104k and I'm having the same problem... Not sure what it is but I know it sucks.

I'm glad there were some people who didn't take his lack of knowledge as upsetting, then proceeded to scold him for having to teach him.

MY04, had it since July of 2012, and now in March of 2013, it's only happened 2x and I believe it's my fault for not fully putting it in gear or something, I was half asleep.

Just wanted to add a laugh because as far as I've read (only the first page) xviper will not be responding to you about anything anymore. You will truly regret this in the future, he is by far one of the most respected sources of information-along with Billman.
He gave you a legitimate answer answer. You responded like a complete dick, it's quite clear that you were the emotional one.
Good day.
Btw 2001; no trans popping out problems.

You've taken a tiny tidbit of information posted in a thread that goes back 6 to 7 years ago and brought it back to the surface and blown it out of proportion. If you are that concerned about the "problem", then don't buy an '04 or '05.

The only thing out of proportion here is your overblown and apparently emotional response to my asking the question. I'm concerned only to the extent any potential new purchaser would be. If you guys here, who know from experience, respond with "Oh f@#k, it's bad", then I'll look for a later car. If you go "It's BS, don't sweat it" then I won't.

I do want to know if it's something that will develop over time. You mentioned that it either has it or it doesn't... anyone else agree or disagree?

Any really great threads out there on it?

Thanks.

No actually he's completely correct and a valuable resource to the community who knows a lot about S2000's. In this case, you are the one who's blown it out of proportion. For the record, never had a single transmission issue with my MY05 when I had it.

Have a 2006 but I do find getting into 2nd gear rather hard, especially when the transmission is cold.
The remedy that I use when the transmission is cold, is to start in 2nd until the transmission warms up.
Two thoughts that may help you (I also have a 2006) --

1) Change your trans fluid every 10-15k, no later.
2) In the morning or whenever you do a cold start, row through every gear twice before you move.

Sorry to be off topic here sort of but (these are numbered in reference to the 2 questions above);

1) If I bought my 04 in July of 2012 with 7200 miles. Now about 8 months later and at about 14,8xx miles. should I change the trans fluid? (I did not do it when I purchased the car.
2) Why is this??
