i prefer the AP1 headlights, looks and, of course, the projectors. I think the main thing is personal choice on the looks. Now if you're a hardcore fan, you would choose the AP1 headlights over the AP2 b/c of the projectors. From what i understand, DOT put a stop on Honda making/using the projectors in the AP1 headlights, and 1st gen TSX headlights. They use a clear lens, and create a very sharp cut-off line. They switched to a fresnal lens (and maybe changed other parts of the projector) for the AP2. Also, the distance from the HID bulb and shield (inside the projector) help create that beautiful color you see reflecting on things.
im an AP1 headlight type of guy
Good info again... Now, my buddy got into a wreck and is getting new AP1 lights, and I told him about this post. He's ask if the new AP1's will still be the same as his old AP1's. Meaning, did DOT update the old lights, or is an AP1 and AP1?

I doubt it. If that were the case, I'm thinking it would open the door to requiring manufacturers to update everything retroactively to meet current standards.

You can probably tell just by looking at the lens if it's of a Fresnel-type.

I've heard that the 00-01 lights were even sharper than the 02-03 ones, but can't remember where I had read that.

Im pretty sure, DOT made them change the projectors, not stop using them in the headlights already designed for them.
If DOT actually made them stop using them, there would be a recall on all of our AP1 headlights. This actually happened with Infiniti, as i know some of their headlights w/ projectors and HID's got recalled.

I think its safe to say that if you buy OEM AP1 headlights, they will still have the "good" projectors in them. They were just changed when the AP2 came out.

You can always check and make sure by looking at the projector in the headlights, if the lens is smooth and clear, than they're the good ones, if they have a "ripple looking affect" than you've got a fresnal lens, which blurs the cutoff a little.

AP1 headlights for the sharp cutoff.

AP2 tail lights for the bright LEDs.

I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I like AP1 parts all around. To me, the AP1 bumper covers make the car look smaller and less flamboyant, and I like the understated 2 circle lights per tail housing better.
