2004 S2000
Hi all,
I just thought that you would like the inside info on the '04 model. I sell Honda's for Heritage Honda in Westminster MD and I was talking to our District Manager today... The '04 will be out in October with a 2.2 liter engine, new gearing to get better mileage, reworked door panels and dash for more leg room, a new front bumper and 17" wheels (thank goodness!!!) Also, Spa Yellow is going to be replaced with a new yellow.

It is to my knowledge, although I saw the road & track article, that I know has been talked about here, about a coupe version. We haven't heard anything yet... I will keep you posted.

I guess it will most likely be still a convertible probably looking extremely similar to the current. If Honda decided to change the look ie make into a coupe along with the newer engine, I don't believe it be called the s2000 anymore plus it seems that the '04 is just minor changes, not a new model.

no, it isn't going to be a new model for 04, just a mid model change. IMO I think Honda will wwait until the last model year for the current S2000 and then release a coupe. They would do that to boost sales. Just my opinion though.

Solid information is especially appreciated. Thank you.
Improving the gas mileage on the S2X00 seems like ordering a double cheeseburger, chili fries, and a diet Coke. I haven't done the math, but I expect that tire cost exceeds gas cost on this car. Also, of all manufacturers, Honda does not need the CAFE credits and the number of these cars is tiny in the mix, anyway.

Changing the gears for more feul economy would be a bad descision. A gear change coupled with a lower redline and more interior room, and you have the softening of a pretty hard edge sports car. If "I" wanted a softer sportscar I would have bought a Z3 or the likes. There are already plenty comfy of comfy poser cars on the market, what the market needs is more hard core sportscars.
But if honda wants to come out with a 2.2 type r down the road to make up for "the dumbing down of the s2200", then I guess that would be ok.
