C'mon guys - lets all pray the S2000 is discontinued for 2005/2006 - then we can all have "supra" values

In all seriousness, Honda is looking for that broader market now. The S2000 is what we in the car biz call a "niche" vehicle - like the Beetle, PT Cruiser, Mini Cooper, etc.... There is a certain number of buyers for the car, and once these people have bought theirs, the niche is filled. Honda is one of the most perceptive manufacturers I've ever seen! They know this, and they know they will either have to change the car to appeal to a broader audience or kill it

To appeal to that broader audience they will need to put an automatic in there and quiet her down more (imagine how loud that auto would be). What do you all prefer - discontinued S2000 or a S that has been bastardized?

Thats what this guy at Honda told me.....but why would Honda do that when the 04's sexy look only gets one year to sell it doesn't make sense, does it?......I don't think it's true.

I don't think it is true either. If you think about it for a while (and I have), dealers are already selling the '04's for invoice or very close to it. Maybe sales will pick up on the S2000 again :fingercrossed:, but Honda will need to do something - and that something IMO will either come in an automatic transmission or a killing. If the car is discontinued, it won't happen next year. There will be a 2005 S2000, but 2006 may be a different story.

Now, the S1000 (if it comes out) could change everything. That would be a car that could come out with an automatic! They could cut back production on the S2000, and make it the "step-up" convertible in the line up This should please all of us - the S2000 would not be impossible to come by as a new car, and we current owners could bask in the slowed down depreciation fator

Or, they could back off the S2000 with the debut of the new NSX, in the same way they backed off the Prelude with the debut of the S2000. Let it sell for a couple more years, discontinue most R&D on it, then decide on how to replace it a few years later when (a) results from the new NSX are in (b) everyone has a better idea what the future direction of Acura is
