2006 S2000 or 2005 Lotus Elise
If the car is only for weekend, I go for the Elise for sure. No doubt.
The price different between the S2K and Elise is around 17K (base on new car). The Elise style, performance is unique. Beside I am sure you get more people attention with the Elise than the $100K M.Benz S600.
Since you only drive around more than 200 mile / month, maintenance cost shouldn't a problem in your case.
For me, the only concern is the comfort of the car. Getting in and out of the car require some practice/trainning, especially with the hard top on.
There are a few good car dealer in the Ebay selling Elise, I believe the price is around 40K.
GO FOR LOTUS !!!

Step 1. Test drive S2000
Step 2. Test drive Elise
Step 3. Think about what you could do with the $15,000 you have left over after buying the S2000.
$5000 supercharger
$1000 exhaust
$2500 Track wheels & tires
$1500 Coilovers
--------
$10,000

weekend → showoff → unique → $ → look cool (high class) → Lotus Elise
There's alot 20K range sport car with blink blink, spin wheel, huge exhaust tip and tons of sticker on the body, etc... in front of local stereo shop, it looks cute but still can't compete with my S2K's charming, why? Because $

You are without a doubt a moron.
Lotus didnt put in the the 2zz for no reason.
Think for a minute, will you?
The 2zz engine has one of the best weight-to-horsepower ratios out there (in terms of sub 6 cylinders) and the lighter the car is overall, the better the weight distribution, the better the car handles, and the quicker it accelerates.

i would have definitely bought the elise if I had the choice. the s2000 is a lot less of a hassle for most of the fun though. Diminishing returns i suppose, but for an enthusiast it's a no brainer.

he is right in saying that many reviewers lament that the Elise was not fitted with a Honda motor - an F20C like high revving motor would have better complemented the Elise's extreme nature rather than the buzzy powerplant from Toyota. And yes, I've been in an Elise before - my uncle had a deposit down on one but backed out at the last minute. I believe the dealer we visited was called "Sports Specialists" or some such in Princeton, NJ. Primarily a Saab dealer.
I saw the Solstice comment buried in there (LMAO)
Viper; that car was ugly as sin to begin with and has dated terribly.
Vette; even the current Z06 doesn't compare to the Elise as a drivers car (Evo magazine, March 2006) so the older ones are not even going to be close.
I buddy has the Elise in the Bay Area and it's horrible as our roads are bad. If you have decent roads the Elise runs rings around pretty much everything out there. If your roads are like ours then I think you'd find the S2000 more usable.
