Lest you forget, the S2000 was a showcase for new technologies when it came out -- EPS, HID, 9K redline with FRM cylinder walls, 6 second convertible top, LEV certification, Al body panels for light weight, X-bone frame...! The list goes on. You can't give Honda grief for picking up on new technologies; that's what this car was all about.
Exactly. From a corporate standpoint it's a low-volume flagship car. It's designed to showcase Honda technical abilities and to bring the customers into the dealership, where they then buy Civics and Pilots and Ridgelines and Elements.

I'm actually quite impressed that Honda is able to retrofit a traction/stability control system into a car that was designed without one.

"Brake assist" systems react to a sudden input of brake pedal. If the car thinks you are trying to panic stop but you aren't pushing hard enough to go to full ABS levels, the car does it automatically for you. Most people just don't push hard enough on their brake pedal in panic stop situations. They just aren't used to wringing out everything that the car can give them.

isn't honda's flagship the odessey? that is one piemping van.

Anyways, HONDA what I really want is AP2 exterior style, MY04 wheels, MY04 interior with MY00 steering wheel, MY02 all red interior, MY02 AP1 engine and suspension bits, MY02 brake pads, MY06 VSA (but only if it can be had without DBW....can't you just use brakes and not throttle to get the car pointed in the right direction), , MY06 stereo/speakers, and MY07 DVD NAV.....oh and championship white paint. Thank you.

I like the VSA since it can be fully disabled.
Can it? Typically these systems can be partially or even mostly disabled, but not fully disabled.

Mike,

I agree. It's impressive that they're able to do this. The brochure really kind of downplays the impact of these changes for MY06, but I think we're talking significant mods to the engine management computer, the brake system, and the addition of several gyroscopic (or other) sensors. This is not a minor stuff.

Brake assist scares me a bit, but like the other changes I'll wait to judge until I've tried it.

Has anyone seen a memo from Honda confirming that there will be no S2000 in 2007, or is that the same old rumor that's been wrong every year.
For whatever it's worth, Road & Track's SPEED magazine reports that the S2000 will be discontinued in 2008.

Yea, I know, lots of BS reported before...

Here's Road and Track's take on the changes:

Interesting - 2855 is the weight listed in the brochure. R and T has it at 2840.

Boys, boys...

SAE has changed the rating system for horsepower a little, and the Japanese manufacturers have re-rated many of their cars.

Don't have a hissy; the car is the same.
well, what SAE took away, i can put extra stickers on to gain it back.

Yes it can be fully disabled if it is anything like the Acuras with VSA (my '03 TL-S has it). Also, I've said it twice already ... but if you hate it that much you can pull the fuse for the VSA system and it will always be off.

BTW- Brake assist is supposed to even out the balance of braking, so your front brakes don't do all the work. Might effect the car's braking in terms of using the brakes to shift your weight forward and getting the car to step out, but should help to make the car a little more stable.
