Default 2016 winter

Is there anyone out there that can help me out or give me some tips on storing my car? currently have it in a climate control unit. I went into the store tips thread but was mainly for outside storage. Any tips for a climate control unit on things I should do to keep it as good as possible??

  • Detail the car in and out.
  • Add Stabil to the gas, fill it and run the car for 5-10 minutes with the AC on. (The drive home from the gas station should do it.)
  • Change the oil and filter.
  • Pump the tires to 40 psi.
  • Connect a tender to the battery.
  • Unlatch the top, but leave it up.
  • Put a few mothballs* in 3 open containers. Place one in the trunk, one in the interior, and one in the air box to keep mice out. (*Pure peppermint oil on cotton balls works and smells better but needs to be refreshed monthly.)
  • Cover and walk away until spring.

Alright so I've done everything but the moth balls and leaving the top unlatched so I'll get that done

What is your reasoning for unlatching the top?

Probably not necessary, but it takes some tension out of the fabric and frame and allows things to relax.

Another tip - maybe the most important - is to put the car in storage in late fall after rodents have settled in their bedding areas for the winter.

A couple of things I do that you could add to the list if you'd like:

- Put a rag in the exhaust tips and air cleaner input to keep rodents out.
- Lay some dryer sheets on the floor and in the trunk, helps repel rodents and smell better than mothballs.
- Leave the windows open a little bit to allow for circulation and reduce the chance of condensation.
- Put some paper towels under the windshield wipers to keep the rubber from sticking to the windshield.
- Don't leave the climate control in recirculate mode, also helps to allow air circulation.
- Leave the car in reverse gear.

I added to the winter thread posted above to park on four boards (I'm using old deck step treads) and even better is a rectangle of 1" foam/wallboard insulation on each board and launch the car up on those for more tire protection from sitting on the concrete or tarp. And if you think you don't have mice, you do so get traps and bait with chunky peanut butter and use the mothballs.
