205s in the rear?!
well its been raining like crazy over here and even inspite of being *extremely* cautious i felt my back end lighten on me numerous times at low rpms and low speeds. i wish i would have taken a picture of the tires because they seriously could have blown any minute...the mechanic that inspected my car before i bought it said that the previous owner should ahve replaced the tires a long time ago..he even suggested me getting my car towed to have the tires replaced because it was not very safe to drive....but lesson learned, i now know to run 245s in the rear if its non OEM...i just hope these tires i have on now dont give me severe problems.

From section 4.1:
4.1 OEM Fitments
For reference, the OEM MY00-03 (AP1) wheel sizes and offsets are as follows:
Front:
16" x 6.5", +55 offset, 205 tire
Rear:
16" x 7.5", +65 offset, 225 tire
You should be fine on the back. What are you running up front (size and brand/model)?
One thing to note is that new tires have a coating on them (forgot what it's called). Anyhow, the tires will seem slippery for the first little while. Also, the backend on the AP1 is known to give out, so BE REALLY CAREFUL. Especially since the car is new to you. Read up on S2ki, lots of info available. Be smooth when driving the car and take your time to get used to it.
Btw, didn't you get the car inspected before buying it?

It is NOT THE SIZE you got wrong when you bought tires!
225/50-16 is PERFECTLY FINE.
It is the TIRES you got that are costing you grip. BFG TractionT/A's are a LOW PERFORMANCE TIRE.
You would be much better off for wet or dry grip with new B'stone S03's in 205 width on all four corners (in warmish nonsnowy weather anyway) than with the BFG TractionT/A's, even if they *were* 245s in back.
FORGET the 245 "rule" for non-OEM tires. The BEST tires available for the AP1 don't come in 245, and on the street the benefits of 245 over 225 are minimal, in some conditions 245's are WORSE for rear grip.
Fixating on widths but getting low-performance tires is MISSING THE POINT.
You didn't get the wrong sizes, you got the wrong TIRE.

Again, it's more important to get the BEST TIRE for your usage than to worry about differences in published "tread width" figures, which don't tell the whole story about a tire's actual grip.
And the best tires are available in 225/50-16, and not in 245/45-16.
Insist on 245's and you eliminate the best tires from consideration.
