Default 2400+ Mile road trip

Well my summer vacation starts tomorrow:

1 ea 2005 Honda S2000
2 ea passenger
1 ea roll (ran out) of blue painters tape
2 ea duffle bags
2400+ miles

The trip:
San Antonio TX to New Orleans, LA
New Orleans LA, to Columbia SC

Return:
Columbia SC to unknown
unknown to San Antonio TX

This is my first road trip in the S, and I'm pretty excited. So I will of course chronicle my trip with pictures, a half ass attempt at creative writing (assuming I see something interesting) and an update when I get back.

So.......... in response to the thread where I asked about painters tape:

I ran out of tape, but you get the idea. I was going for the CR effect...

Tape update: I hit some rain early in the trip and had to take the tape off before it turned to paper mache, so sorry guys, no real feedback on its effectiveness.

Update:

Brief and stupid update:

Stayed at the Marriot in New Orleans (off Canal St, next to the french quarter). Hotel was nice, and close to all the good stuff, but required valet parking. So +$30, and quite a b it of reluctance later (what else could I do?) I reset the trip and have the car parking Wed afternoon. After settling into the hotel, we go downstairs to pick up the car to go tool around. .2 miles on the trip and perfect condition! Sweet.

Drive 1.2 miles, come back and decide to walk. Reset the trip and called it a day with the S2000.

Fast forward to Thursday morning. Wake up, shower and plan to have a fun day of site seeing and beer drinkin. Come downstairs and have the front desk bring the S2000 around. Wait....

Wait some more.

20 minutes later... car drives up. Valet says hes sorry, the car was parked in a different spot than listed at the desk. Get in... A/C is on? Radio is off? Bird shit on the wind blocker? WTF? Tripometer: 3.6 Miles. WTF WTF WTF

Get out. HUGE gash on front lip. Son of a...

Long story short, after talking to the hotel manager, valet manager, security manager, cops... "the Mariott will investigate by reviewing the tapes to determine if the vehicle was taken out somtime over night. Depending on the findings, thats when I decide to file a claim if they are at fault, blah blah."

Cops say they cant do anything - its a civil matter, etc. Since when was driving my car without permission/reason a civil matter? We have a term for that, Im sure you are all familar with it, JOYRIDING - AKA Grand Theft Auto.

Regardless, we checked out and kept driving. I decided to brush it off, and block out the thought of some punk ass kid doing donuts in my S in some empty parking lot. Im going to enjoy my vacation.

So I get a call today from the hotel, they say the cameras show NO damage when I turned the vehicle in, and that it was caused by them. They want me to get three quotes together and send it in to their insurance. But they aren't accepting responsibility for taking the car out as it "never left the garage".

Here is a crappy pic of scrape.

New update:

After the hotel incident we decided to keep driving. We started late in the afternoon and only made it to Montgomery, AL before calling it a night. The town was DEAD... almost creepy, seeing as it was 10pm downtown on a Thursday night.. just not something Im used to seeing.

After stopping for lunch in Hotlanta, GA, I merge on to see a berlina AP1 with a single and CF mirriors. Hrmmmm. Turns out to be another S2Ki member (Patrick, prelewd/s2k) and we cruise for 100+ miles all the way to Augusta, GA.

Pics:

About halfway to Augusta we stop at a gas stations for drinks and typical S2K bullshitting that occurs. After some ribbing on my part for having a top down sticker, yet rolling with the top up, we both leave top down - unknowingly towards a crappy thunderstorm.

After 5 minuntes in this crap and my inability to keep it over 70 (thanks to traffic) we pull over desperatly looking for cover. **** it. We pull to the shoulder, hazards on for what had to be the longest 10 seconds of my life. Ebrake up, flicking switch... HOLDING SWITCH. COME ON DAMNIT. And now Im soaked.

Update:

Small, but relevant. Last night I ran accross a silverstone AP1 here in town. Turns out to be someone I went to high school with. The kid was always kind of a dick so I made small talk and was on my way. Thats that.

Neat, buy a clear bra

I just did a 1800-mile trip in 5-days with my girlfriend (I am 6'3", she is 6'0") and it was great. Both of us loved every minute of it!

Watch out with that painters tape. I think my "NFR turning into a Suzuka" was pretty famous at WTD this year

Here is one interesting example of using the painters tape approach:
