I recently did a 2000 mile trip with no sleep in the S.
Cleveland to Oklahoma to pick up a car for a friend and back to Cleveland.
My butt/lower back = sore for a week.

I would imagine you had to have bumped into some other S2000s on the road at some point. Especially those very rare, very fast Berlinas around that area. It was good meeting you man I enjoyed having a speeding buddy for 100+ miles. Oh, and the CF side mirror was fine just had to tighten up a screw, and I put my top always down decal on today. I feel I deserve it a bit more now after getting soaked in the 6 very long seconds in took to get my top up yesterday. It was a good ride though, enjoy your trip and be safe.

I never really understood the painter's tape thing. I wouldn't expect to get more bugs than you normally would over 2400 miles (of course I'd be washing more often mile wise). As far as paint chips, it's really no different than driving day to day. Of course my take on it is probably colored by the fact that my car is a semi daily driver and it sees regular highway miles.

an alternative to painters paint is REJEX. It's a silicone paste that you put on then let dray and buff.

Works well for the bugs, not so well for rocks at 70+ mph

I drive the S to work once in a while, but its a straight shot to the base (about 6 miles) on a small 4 lane road. Rarely see speeds 50+ and nevr run behind dump trucks/through construction/etc.

The tape was to prevent as much damage as possible at 80+ MPH for 1000+ miles. No washes in between, never knowing what you're going to run into as far as construction and debris on the road. It makes sense and you'll notice quite a few new chips/scratches/etc when you take a ride, esp one you obsess over like an S2000.

As said in another thread, sure it looks a little wonky, but when you're down there scrubbin that nose after the drive and see no new marks it feels good.
