I think you overdid it with the tape but better safe than sorry.
I took a 5000mi (RT) last Dec. and taped the leading edge of the lip plus the underside.
When I returned, I had one small chip close to the "H" emblem.
Live and learn since this was obviously a vulnerable area and I should have known better.
Enjoy the trip.

First thing I thought of was Ferris Bueller and the douche bags driving the Ferrari. I didn't think a degenerate working as a hotel valet attendant would even consider taking cars out for a joyride. I'd imagine that those little stoners would only be worried about getting through as many cars as possible to steal the items in the glove compartments and center consoles.
Oh, and this incident is the reason why I would be reluctant to have my car valet parked.
