It hurts who?
Three weeks ago, I raced an '04 on I95 (not a member here) and it wasn't pretty.
Then again, I'm not stock. Another friend (''02) of mine raced one (not the same
'04) and put two cars on the guy...then again, he isn't stock either (neither of us
are forced induction mind you).
My point?

Comparing dyno's is pretty much worthless. Dyno's don't race, cars do. It might be
pretty rare to see a 2.2 line up against a 2.0 and have both bone stock.
I've seen '04 S2000 dyno #'s pretty much online with what Honda states for
the engine. I've seen a few ringers as well. I've read comparisons which prefer the earlier version, others the '04. For nine out of 10 of us, either would do nicely.

Maybe when the next S2000 version comes out, only then will we see and end to the '04 vs -----
debates, especially when it comes to quoting dyno results. Just drive the damn cars...

I have no problem hitting 60 in second gear.

This makes me want a test drive. I want to sooo bad. But I know if I do, I'm going to want one and I'm in the teens right now. I'm almost through!

Can't believe people are still arguing this. What a shame. Never mind that we've already done instrumented acceleration comparisons that backed up the dyno comparisons which also jive well with simulation comparisons and all agree that the 04 has more power and accelerates quicker.

Still not selling my 00, but facts is facts.

The dyno graph says "flywheel horsepower", so we are saying the '04 makes 2-5 more HP than previous years? Because the '00-'03 "flywheel horsepower is 240.
Power to the wheels is where we need to be looking.

The dyno graph says "flywheel horsepower",
what is says is not what it is. IT IS NOT FLYWHEEL HORSEPOWER. Look @ the picture, the wheels are removed and the dynapack is connected to the wheel hubs. That is WHP. I know because my car has been tuned @ the same facility.

This discusion gets brought up again and again, but if dyno's mean nothing, at least consider what THAT SAME dynapack makes (hp wise) on previous S2K's vs. what it puts down on the 04's.

There are no motives or reasons that the numbers were falsified, to say otherwise is childish ignorance, and it saddens me there are people on this sight that make such accusations.

Search for Dynapack and "Transmission Correction Factor" or TCF. The Dynapack assumes you're going to enter the loss factor from the hubs to the flywheel. Note that on the published charts the TCF = 1.0, which means we use no loss factor. Trying to estimate tranny losses simply by looking at wheel/hub results is about as useful as tarot card reading, so we simply don't do it.

I find it ironic that during the usual pre-04 and '04 discourse, little or no comment is made
to the usual inclusions of posts showing the newbie models making roughly the correct
horsepower (after tranny loss) as advertised. A fair amount of acceleration tests
and dyno results have been published to make a strong case for the "it's a drivers race" assessment. It seems to me for every "strong" dyno pull, I've seen a "normal" one.
I should just copy and paste this post to the next "04 vs. 00-03" thread sure to appear a month from now.

...and one more thing. Road Rage, when was the last time you saw comparable drivers line up anywhere? Rarely does it happen, even amongst S2000 owners. Some are just better (or more willing) to launch their car post VTEC than others...it doesn't matter in that case what year the car is, the guy babying his 2K from the launch is going to get smoked.
