My only comment is to make a friend of the cruise control. Let's face it, you were a sitting duck going 20 mph over the posted limit on an off peak time. You made the cop's job easy. Think of it this way: it's late night, top down, vtec sound, maybe some tunes/maybe not, and stars. Why not soak in the experience as opposed to carrying a bust me sign. Did you really need to be in a hurry at that time?

I'm all for having fun in your car, and doing whatever you want responsibly. You just made it too easy for the man. The fact you were probably annoyed only helped the officer's ego. He's on a sucky shift, bored to tears, and you gave him some excitement.

Hope it works out for you.

its all about the money. Even the ride hight "fix it " ticket, i mean headlights must be 22" off the ground.... why?? ppl are driving drunk, wreckless, and then they have cops pulling ppl over for ride height and giving tickets...
yep! speeding aside there's so many other local/state laws that borderline on B.S. especially towards imports like us.

Guys, traffic fines are all about revenue. Plain and Simple. If you consider a municipalities "return on investment" (that's the cost of cruisers, radar and laser guns, etc vs citation income) , enforcement of speeding offenses is the most profitable endeavour local law enforcement can make. This is largely because it is so easy. From the perpective of the cops, they essentially wait and the money "drives" right up to them. Compare this to enforcing "other" traffic violations (tail-gating, no brake lights, talking on cell phones, no seat belt, etc.), and you can see that it's simply easier to enforce.

Now I'm not condoning reckless speeding, but 85 in a 65?? Here in Texas we call that driving to work. You'll still get a ticket, but we'd hardly convene a War Crimes tribunal over it. And the fine is probably < $200.

and let us not forget to prove his point, the monthly QUOTAS (tickets given) each cop must reach. and yes, $249 is steep (where you in a construction zone?) what gives?

I'm sure that there isn't an S2000 driver who hasn't gotten a speeding ticket or gone above the speed limit.

Face it, you got caught speeding, the cop wasn't being a dickhead (unless, as pointed out by you that you are a young black male, the police officer used any type of racial comments), he was doing his/her job.

Take the ticket to court, fight it as best you can, and in the end, hope you get off relatively lightly (IE, fine, no points or reduced points).

Use whatever money is left to buy a V1, and be a smarter & safer driver.

I speed all the time. It's a slow day when I don't hit 100 Mph at least once. WHEN I get caught (it's pretty much inevitable) I'm not going to cry about it. I'm not going to worry about it that much either. If I'm stupid and careless then I deserve the ticket.

I don't speed at night, I don't speed unreasonably (more than 15 over) unless I know the road and where the cops sit. 20 over is reckless here in VA. Over 100's automatic one night in jail.

If you screw up, you should take your lumps like a man and keep going. Life's too short to let something like this get you down. If you're stupid and lose your license, well, that's tough.

The posted speed limit is NOT THE LAW!!!!
Unless you find a loophole in the system, a person can be cited and convicted of speeding. Sure, a Person can be cited for "unsafe speed" even if they are going below the posted speed limit. This is determined by the conditions during at which time an Officer witness's said Person driving an "unsafe speed" for the condition. This is up to the Officer's discretion.

Typically, a sign that say's "Maximum Speed" is the maximum speed a Person is allowed to travel. Anything above the "Maximum Speed" is againts the Law. Now as I said before, there are loopholes in the justice system, most of which require a good attorney to reveal and present to a presiding Judge.

Going with the flow of traffic, and speed trap are just two examples of beating a speeding rap. Illegal use of radar, failure to maintain calibration and accuracy of radar can be used in a traffic trial. There are lot's of other little things that can be thrown at the Judge, in which most cases, a dismissal will be granted.

Unless you have an arsenal to bring with you to a traffic trial, such as a good attorney, exceeding the Maximum speed limit is very much ILLEGAL, period.

Revenue is definitely the key word here, i totally agree with that. I live in a well to do neighborhood and you wanna know one of the reasons i have such a negative view on police is this. They will arrive promptly 3-4 hours later after one of our houses are broken into and then there is never anythign they can do. However, they are always there in the mornings to provoke and attempt to steal from us with bullshit speed traps and have had the speed lowered 3 times in the past few years, ya safety my ass. So sry for me negative view on a "majority" of cops, if they would try doin some real police work instead of stealing with BS traffic violations, maybe the community would have just alittle more faith in them.
