[QUOTE=daverx7,Oct 12 2007, 12:05 PM] In comparing it to the S2000, the 350Z feels out of place on an autocross esp. with quick transitions....

hey thanx guys! i'm glad 1 of u owns both. having owned the 300 and driven both the 350 & s2000 more than once, they are SUCH different cars. i have a scale in my head that keeps leaning 1 way and then the other way lol.

i should have mentioned that i want the $50k nismo Z for my next next car. i just can't get it right now . although, that new CR is looking very nice, 2! i think i'll get both + an F50 hehe.

i think i'll take a Z break. i never liked the new look of the 350 bubbles n e way. i'd be willing to drive the 'bubble' if it were nismo. florida is full of 350's anyway. the ratio of them 2 s2k's is like 20:1.

oh, and on the 'COMPLETELY stock' thing, i just wanted it 2 stand-out, as people keep asking, 'IS IT STOCK?!'.

thanx all! and sorry 2 those in other states who can't put a top down year-round .

here is the 1 i am looking @. the brandon ford website has more pix, though: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_...ag=1&cardist=79

btw, are there removable hard tops for these available???????

Yeah, there are several hardtops:

OEM, Mugen (CF & FB), and few others.

I have the CF Mugen replica. It's a sweet hardtop, I get many glances and

I'm glad you're making the choice to go with S2K.

BTW, you don't like the looks of the 350? I still think 350 is one of the cleanest looking cars on the road. IMO I think they're a timeless design.

The price of your future S2K... sounds kinda high. I would negotiate and bring it down to $15K

Best wishes

BTW, you should take a look at this:

http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1299642

They have some clean and sick looking S2K's. Will give you some ideas... =]

I know that dealers make a grip off of used cars. If you go in there w/ a plan, then I'm sure you can get the price lowered. If not, get them to throw in some services. But I still think $19K is too high...

If you do end up choosing an s2k, I'd suggest driving both an AP1 and an AP2... Yesterday I was about to go trade in my AP1 for an AP2... (I love to looks (bumpers, headlights, taillights, interior, and speaker system) ...but after driving the AP2, I couldn't get over how light the clutch is, how the steering wasn't quite as tight, how the suspension was a little softer, and how quickly you have to shift (I bounced off the rev-limiter a couple times while test driving it ...oops) There was more torque, and I wanted a newer one, but I'm definately going to stick with my AP1... It feels more like a gocart to me

I know I'm gonna get hazed and slammed for these comments, tons of people love the AP2s more, but I just couldn't take it

Yeah, I agree with everything that you said except the transmission. I'm sure you're aware, but 350Z auto transmission is one of the worst I've ever driven. It's not fair to compare 6MT to 5AT. Just saying...

Some people don't like the 6MT of the Z because it's notchy, but some people actually like it b/c you actually know what gear it's going into. I personally liked the 6MT shifter for the 350Z. And of course the S2K is better (so smoooooooooth like butta)
Actually I meant my comment regarding the tranny to be for the S2000. Did I say it is a great tranny?

As of the 350Z's 5AT, it is much much much better than what we came from, which was a 2000 Prelude AT. Honestely, the Z's 5AT is actually pretty darn good for autocrossing and the dragon runs I've done. However, the timing of the the "manual mode" does take some getting used to.... once that is figured out, it pretty good.

[QUOTE=jungliano,Oct 12 2007, 03:23 PM]Even though your wife has the 5AT, I envy you that you have both in your house.

The Honda faithful are one of the few crowds of people that act as though torque is not something to be missed. Are you actually happier that the car lacks torque? The s2000 is a great car but it lacks torque and that is a turnoff to lots of people - the argument of 'knowing how to drive right' is a bunch of crap.

To the OP, why do you hate everything about the miata? It is a very similar car in many respects, with an obvious shifter and hp advantage given to the s2000 but why do you hate the miata so much?

Hmm... I can understand your feelings or maybe even experience on this. I'll be the 1st to complain that the lack of TQ sux with this car... but for autocrossing, "knowing how to drive it right" does make it FAST. Sure, having more TQ sure would better and easier to drive it fast. However with my experience and seeing the Nationals results (winning 1st place in A-stock), "knowing how to drive it right being a bunch of crap"... well... just doesn't support your feelings/experience.

For drag or illegal street racing... this is certainly NOT the right car for that.

Cheers,

-Dave

I just want to say...

To all the S2Kiers that have responded - ya'll have been very friendly and nice in this thread - good call.

And to the OP - The S2000 is a fantastic car - I've had a couple Zs before I got this and after some seat time youll see - its hard to find anything that will top this. The 350Z will feel much more familiar as its heavier and has a good amount of TQ but the S2000 is like a go cart - strap on a blower and its a go cart on crack.

Consider your options. As long as you end up happy thats all that matter.

Oh and S2000 owners>350Z/G35 owners. At the last meet I heard some G35 guys telling this guy "you can only roll (to some meet) if youre in a Z or G.. and I don't mean G20 (group laughter) - cocky asshats.

S2000 FTW
