Default 3rd gear lockout

28k 03 ap1. Clutch master seems fine, clutch fluid is pretty dirty. Haven't checked tranny fluid. My shifting is notchy overall. I have a 2nd gear grind and recently 3rd gear locked out couple of times, didn't let me shift unless I pushed up with more force. Got me worried, since I bought the car 3rd gear has felt weird. It's a weird feel when I shift into 3rd, don't really hear a grind more of a feel. Also reverse is tough to get into. 4,5,6 shift pretty alright, I'm also new to stick shift. Any suggestions. Mostly 3rd that has me worried since it locked out recently. Like I said when I shift into third it's this weird feeling I have against my hand.

To elaborate. 2nd gear grinds and 3rd isn't really a grind, yet it locked out. I know 2nd gear grind is common on ap1 s2k but I'm trying to figure out this weird 3rd gear feel. I'll be changing tranny fluid soon since I don't think any of the fluids have been changed since 2010. But need other suggestions or possible solutions

My suggestion is to try the suggestions suggested already before asking for more suggestions that you aren't planning on checking on.

Or...take the car to a known S2000 tech. Have them drive it.

Maybe all this stems from the fact that you're new to stick - which is something I have also suggested is the issue.

I would take it to either a S2000 tech, or another S2000 owner and let them drive it.

Another owner could tell you if it's normal or not.

if you are grinding 2nd and 3rd is getting locked out and not able to go in, it really sounds like syncros to me. Time for new ones.

My corvette did this and I ended up rebuilding the transmission. 2nd gear would grind and lock out.

Sounds like clutch drag to me. Adjust clutch rod.
