Let them fix it under warranty and get it resolved if it's not to honda spec.

I just had my top replaced under warranty by a local upholstery shop and it turned out perfect. It makes sense to have the work done by people that deal with those types of problems everyday. You have to remember that the dealership will make more money doing the repair themselves so them willing to sublet it out sounds like they are more concerned about making sure its right.

Like others have said, I would rather have an outside upholstery shop do the work (provided it is a good shop).

How many tops do you think an average dealer has replaced? I'd venture not many and they would actually be more likely to mess it up!

I also recently had my top replaced by the dealer and they outsourced it to an upholstery shop. Im a bit paranoid as most S2k owners so I dropped my car off at the dealer with only the driver seat left in the interior. I figured they could scratch/break what wasnt there. Im happy with the way it turned out. On my old my00 s2k I replaced the top myself and by far the hardest part of the install is getting the interior bits out of your way. Also it worked out for both parties. Honda had to pay less labor time to the shop and I got the car back the next day vs the quoted 3 days. One more benefit was that since there is some drilling involved (rivet removal) that I had the chance once I got it back home to vacuum where the shop missed and got all the little shavings out of the nooks and crannies.

I'm the warranty administrator at a BMW Dealership and we rarely install tops here warranty or not. The tops that are replaced are all usually sublet work to local upholstery shops that deal with these repairs DAILY. If your honda dealership is sending the work their I'm sure its becuz they do good work. I doubt ur car is the first one they've sent their.... Maybe the other upholstery shop just wants to make money and they bash on the competition

i was udner the impression this apoulstry shop was going to make a "repair" on your current top, or replace it with a top of theirs.... if this shop is going to be performing the labor on replacing with a new OEM top, i dont see a problem
