What would these gears be like in an 04 -05 given the lower redline?
The 04-05s also have higher gearing in the transmissions built in. If you look at the numbers and the dyno curves, the low gears in a stock '04-'05 should feel much like an '00-'03 with the 4.77 rears. My guess is that putting a 4.77 in an '04-'05 would be overkill.

Qucik question... i wanted to get 4.77 gears but can you change the 6th gear. Ive heard of people complain that on 6th gear that with 4.77 gears it would rev to high. since i rarely go over 120, cant i just have the stronger gears 1-5 and then have 6th with the honda factory gear. Thanks
the people that say that are the ones that don't have the gears. There have 3 members who had the 4.44s and switched to the 4.77.... I can't think of one person who has 4.77 and who switched to 4.57.

Top speed in each gear should be reduced by 4.1/4.77. Top speed in sixth should go down to about 130 mph. Changing this up or down would require changing the individual 6th gear, and it's already been mentioned that this would be a major undertaking.
An interesting question is whether the 4.77 (or 4.57) rear gear actually gets a faster acceleration over say the quarter mile or is it mostly the feeling of it?
Tonino.

Here's how to find out the rpm with 4.77 gears at 80 mph. For those with a PS2 and GT3, buy a S2000 and the full racing transmission. Change the final drive to 4.77. Go to the test course. Go up to 80 mph and check your tach
it is almost this easy...but you forgot one detail...before you buy the full-race tranny...go to the test track or something and find out what the stock gears are for the S2000

ie 1st = 2.36...or something like that...and each individual gear, after you do that...and write it all down, now buy the full race tranny...and switch all the individual gears to how it stocks are...after that, now you can just mess with the final drive which will show rpms per mph in different gears...

Now to note...I tried this before this thread, actually a while ago, to see how it affected the 400m time...and for some reason I would always get close the same if not a little slower with the lower gears (4.77) I'm sure GT3 just isn't THAT accurate...it also puts the S at a BEST of 14.5 400m at 96 or so...close to real...but a little slow...and that was with a perfect launch and perfect shifts, bringing the time down from a 14.7

Gosh! Imagine that....

In case you guys haven't figured it out yet, it is the engine that accelerates the car, not the gears. Changing the final drive ratio just changes the shift points. But keep dreaming if it makes you happy....

Why doesn't anyone sell 4.77's that are cryotreated. Are the J's Racing gear set's cryotreated. They are ridiculously expensive.
