Why doesn't anyone sell 4.77's that are cryotreated. Are the J's Racing gear set's cryotreated. They are ridiculously expensive.

Where can you find those 4.77 gears from kia for cheap.. I called two local dealers which said they cost 570.. I thought they were 300. I looked at the kia website but couldnt find the gears.

Gosh! Imagine that....
In case you guys haven't figured it out yet, it is the engine that accelerates the car, not the gears. Changing the final drive ratio just changes the shift points. But keep dreaming if it makes you happy....

Why do you think the car accelerates faster in first gear than in fifth gear?
so comparing a stock s2k with similar drivers and another s2k with lets say 4.77 gears.. When would gears have the advantage and when would the stock have the advantage.

Over 100. I would guess over 100 the stock would be quicker or is it that the gears s2k would be quicker overall but would have a less top end. Thanks.

Well, I've got a SC'd, AC'd and 4.77'd s2k. My honest opinion is, whoever says a 4.77 is too much for a SC is full of it. Yes, it revs quite a bit on the freeway. 70-80 mph is right around 5krpm. When the top is up, yes, its a bit loud and the engine buzzes a bit.
But that's just the 4.77 gears. Trying to relate the two makes no logical sense whatsoever. Tell me this, what's the difference between a S/C's car with 4.77 gears putting down 280hp and a S/C car with a tuned EMS and 4.57 gears putting down 300hp? From a driving feel perspective, not a whole lot.
Now, if you wanted to talk 1/4 mile times and such, you might have something to stand on, but those are averaged measurements which factor in shift time. What *I* care about is getting the most amount of instantaneous acceleration possible at all times. This is only possible with the shortest gearset possible. The S/C is an independant means to that end.
To be honest, I still think first is a bit too tall. I'd LOVE to run an 04-05 transmission WITH the S/C, AND the 4.77 gears. Now THAT would be fun!
In my perfect little world, 5th would top out around 100-110 or so, with 6th taking you up to 160-170. If that were the case, I'd actually USE all 6 gears.
I hear all this talk over the last couple years here about how 4.77s and S/Cs don't mix, but have any of you actually DRIVEN one of these cars? I OWN one, and I'd never go back.
BTW: with the S/C and gears, I get 17-18mpg city, 24mpg freeway.
Sorry for the rant....

I want some gears too
what is the difference in the 4.57 vs 4.77 at 80mph???

About 200 rpm's lower with 4.57s and stock '00-'03 tires. 4800 rpm vs. 5000 rpm
