4.77 gears, need a slip differential?
Just curious if I need to get a slip diff if I put 4.77 gears on my S2000. I know the 4.77 gear has been discussed over and over here, not trying to beat a dead horse. I just haven't seen anyone discuss if you actually need a slip diff. Figured since I'm keeping my car NA this would be one of my last mods... I already have intake, test pipe, VAFC-II, new suspension, and rims/tires so this is about it for me until FI. Also wondering the price of install on the gears if anyone has info please let me know, thanks!
I'm guessing you are referring to the LSD (slip diff)
The S2000 has a torsion (torque sensitive) LSD that works very well and is for the most part maintenance free. You can install a clutch type LSD 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0 they are not torque sensitive and giving traction at all times.
These require maintenance from time to time and require a special additive to the diff fluid.
You don

My KAAZ (clutch type) doesn't require any kind of additive.
The OEM Torsen is the best choice for most applications, but there are actually a host of LSD types, including ratchet types and hybrids like the Torsen R-Type.
