I have been driving in houston without a plate for 7-8 years. I have only got 1 warning, and it was on the way back from Austin on Grand Parkway.

I did get a ticket however for a neon light that I had in the grill of my 95 accord.

 

Been driving in Texas almost 10 years, got dozens of speeding tickets , never once got flak from a cop about not having a front plate. Incidentally, I did an informal survey here, and 18% of cars don't have them.

There's a bill in the legislature to eliminate the requirement, not sure if it's going to pass.

 

I must be your polar opposite. Everytime I've got a ticket, (tailgating a slow 18-wheeler up going uphill<College Station>, radio too loud<Houston>, window tint too dark <LaGrange,TX @ midnight>, speeding<Ennis> ), the nice officer tacked on the no front plate offense.
