Default 400 Hp N/a S2000!

I understand how the s2000 can only gain noticeable power with a sc/tc but i was looking through my old Car And Driver's and in the February 2003 issue there is an article on the s2000 @ the Bonneville Salt Flats. They got 400hp out of the F20C N/A!!! Here's how they did it:

-Port and Polished Head
-AEM EMS
-Comptech SS Header
-Race Fuel (114 Octance)
-Nitrous 75 shot (but it was not used)

How is this possible?

i thought this same thing too but the car was sponsored by Car and Driver, it was like on 6 page article on the car. I dont see why they would lie about it...on the dyno they got 332hp at the crank...and i guess 400 with nitrous...

i forgot to add the played with the aerodynamics of the car (enlarged front air dam) and lowered the vtec to 5500

and also the suspension was modded as well as roll cages etc.. my guess is the clutch was replaced as well..

http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?se...article_id=1810

Here's the article...and they didn't get 332 at the crank.....they got 255 at the wheels......any estimate of HP is the crank from rwhp is 100%

BTW they modified the cams and did a host of other enhancements.....no way are they going to tell you all they did....assume it is a fully built race motor and I think it is possible....

They went from 203 to 255 hp on the dyno. A 52 hp gain seems possible.

I have seen/heard AEM tuning bump 20+ hp with better timing and moving hp peak to a higher rpm. (Visit their web forums) We will give the header 5 hp (feeling nice). The port and polish was on the exhaust side only. From what I have heard, the EX side is the most restrictive and only flows about 80 to 85% of the intake side can. The EX PnP and can improve exhaust flow over 10%. So we will give that +10 hp.

Now, I have no clue on what hp gains octane increases can have but on a sunny day you might get a +35 hp bump on EMS, Header and Ex port so and 17 hp gain sounds reasonable on 114 race gas.

So I think gaining +52 with their mods is possible.

As for 255 whp = 332 at the crank. Hmmm.

203 (stock whp)/ 240 (crank hp) = 84.5 %

255 (mod whp)/ .845 = 301 hp

For 114 Race gas, this seems reasonable.

Octane has nothing to do with HP. It is a measure of the combustibility of the gas, nothing more. Higher Octance will let you run a higher compression engine.

" If you are using gasoline with an octane rating greater than 87 and your engine is not "knocking," drop down to a lower octane gasoline. If your engine begins to "knock," go back up to the next octane level. Remember, octane is nothing more than a measure of anti-knock quality...use the lowest octane fuel which provides you with knock-free operation.

Another myth is that use of a high octane fuel will improve fuel economy. The fact is that fuel economy is determined by a number of variables, including the energy content of the fuel and the condition of your vehicle, neither one of which have anything to do with the octane level of the fuel. In fact, two fuels of identical octane could have different energy content due to a difference in composition.

all that was really upsetting , is that they didnt beat the record and they should have gotten a much better speed than what they have got
