Well, that's enough to scare me off. I've been pretty obsessed with these cars for four years, but my gut, it doesn't know what to think. I certainly want a s2000 I can have fun with.

I always hear people say this, but I never truly know what they mean. I'm not sure I even want to lowball him anymore.

This has been quite the process of mental gymnastics......

To be honest I love working on my cars, that's one of the reason I've been pining for a s2000. If I didn't plan to fix things myself, I'd have settled for something like a BMW Z4 that is essentially just mechanic territory. But yeah, If anything I think it's been a lesson of knowing how to walk away.

Saving up a few thousand more will open up better options than the cars you've been considering. If you are contemplating traveling a fair distance to make a purchase just make sure that you have the seller send you plenty of detailed photos of the car before doing so. Keep in mind that all S2000's have a number of years on them now and with each passing year there will be an increasing number of things for you to work on.

Can i just say though i'm very proud of you for asking for advice and then actually listening to it? Sure theres always a little bit of denial involved whenever you really want something. But when all evidence points to not getting it, i'm really happy you are walking away. There are too many examples of people in this community who ask for advice and then still do what they wanted in the first place, only to regret it later and for everyone to say "told you so".

You'll find one eventually. Have you joined your local S2k Facebook group? A lot of time people in there will sell to fellow group members first.

...and if you do find one far away, post on that areas sub forum asking if anyone local can do a ppi for you. Jist having someone informally look it over to make sure its not a pos will help make sure you don't make a totally wasted trip.

If you happen to get lucky and the local person is able to do a more thorough inspection, even more betterer.

Much appreciated, I'm just going to give him a copy of the Carfax since its best that it doesn't go to waste and we can part ways.

Im saddened but it's a good lesson, thankfully I'm not as impulsive as some of those before me
