max gain? What do you mean? You want the highest final drive? and for 17" tires?

I'm not so sure this is what tenblade is seeking - to change his ratio with tires. I think he's asking what is the best tire combination since he has 4.77's. Tenblade, please clarify this.
If you have 17" wheels, are they staggered widths? You should still have staggered tires to go on them. One of the first cars with staggered tires was the Corvette. Those engineers discovered that the way the car's suspension was set up (for auto-X and road courses), the high speed stability suffered. The car tended to wander and was difficult to track straight. Staggered tires resolved this. I would imagine that this principle applies to the S2000.
If you do have staggered 17" wheels, you might consider the same staggered sizes as what now comes on the '04 S2000. In fact, with 4.77's, you might even consider putting a bit more rubber on the rear for traction as you will be able to break those suckers loose so much easier. I believe the '04 has 225's up front and 245's in the back. You might think about going to 255's so long as your wheels have enough width to safely accommodate them. Adjust the aspect ratio accordingly to maintain more or less the same overall diameter.

No its just fine the way it is....I just didn't want to mess it up by getting a tire that was too big.
Thank you guys for the help. Its appreciated.
