About to take the plunge
Just a few questions
I want your impressions of minor little annoyances with this car, what will I run into?
I've driven some intense cars (including single turbo RX-7 and a single turbo RX-8 that could both hit 150 mph in the blink of an eye) so I'm not too worried about ride quality or things like that.
I hear the exhaust note can get pretty bad on the highway? What RPM does the car cruise at around 80 mph?
Also hear the storage space sucks . . . I'm looking at 06s and they seemed to have as much space as my Miata (which is more than enough for my girl and I) but I'd like your opinions anyways
Basically, any other issues I should be aware of?
Oh - and I don't plan to mod the hell out of this car - i've grown up and matured a bit, so I might go with some superlight wheels/r compounds for autocross (A Stock hopefully) days but that's about it, so I'm not worried about modding potential.

I believe I'm right at 4500 at 80. I have an 06. No issues really, I love the car. Paint's not the best, I got a chip out of one of my sideskirts already from a piece of gravel. I think my dealership is going to take care of it though.
I've had my S for about a month now, and I love it.
RIDE: I have been very impressed by the ride quality. It's not Lexus smooth of course, but it is very comfortable for a sports car. It's not harsh at all, and you never crash over bumps.
NOISE: It is a loud car, for sure. The noise can be a plus or a minus, depending on the situation. When you're out on a curvy stretch of back country road, it's awesome. Feels like a motorcycle. In town running errands and such, it's fine too. On the highway at 65+ mph, there a drone that gets annoying. But its ok, and you certainly could deal with it easily on trips up to 2-3 hours with no problem.
STORAGE: It's not terrible and perfectly ok for 95% of your storage needs. You can easily fit a load of groceries in the trunk or a couple of bags for a weekend trip. Plan on using another car, however, for the trips to Home Depot and Costco. Interior storage space isn't so great. Lot of little compartments here and there, but none of them are big or particularly well-designed. The cupholder sucks.
INTERIOR: Some of the interior controls could be laid out better (audio controls are not as functional as they could be), but the quality of the materials and the cockpit-like design is awesome. The digital instruments are so-so. I can't decide if I would prefer conventional instruments.
I'm very partial to the red/black interior of my silverstone. Very distinctive look. I'm 5'8" and somewhat hefty (200+ lbs), and the interior is very comfortable for me. The seats are very comfortable, and the driving position is excellent. I've driven four hours with a passenger, and it was a comfortable trip for us both.
You wil really enjoy the car. It's a fun ride and much easier to live with than most of the car mags would lead you to believe. I've had it a month and already have 2500 miles on it. That should tell you something.

the most annoying thing would be the cupholder. if there's a cup in it, shifting is kinda uncomfortable. also, the windshield angle is pretty steep so debris kicked up by other cars keep hitting it and sediments get lodged in it. i got 2 little chips in my windshield already. non-adjustable steering column kinda bugs too.
with that said, the joys of driving the car far outweigh the pains of the little annoyances. goodluck on your purchase.

If I have to pick out a nuisance I'd have to comment on the notchy, cold shifting. The 1st-to-2nd shift with a cold transmission will give you a grinding feeling. I have learned to shift especially slowly for the first 5-10 minutes. But after it has reached working temperatures, the shifting is like butter.
Just my $.02 but I think the seat material is not as nice as the earlier AP2. And for the drone and interior noise there is a group buy for dynamat everyone says it makes a huge difference. Usually people buy a s2k because they love the s2k, little things should not stray you away from such an awesome car. Good luck.
Cretinx,
If you liked the RX-7, you'll love the S2K. I also had an FD RX-7, but sold it after 2 years and over $20k in repairs. I've had my S2K for a year and a half now and haven't had a single problem with it. It's my favorite car I've every owned. My buddy has a 1 year old RX-8 and my 5 year old S2K looks way newer. All of the materials on the Honda are better quality. The exhaust isn't bad as long as you resist the urge to put an aftermarket exhaust on it. I drive mine at 80mph 60 miles a day and it doesn't bother me at all. The wind noise is way louder than the motor. I can't believe how much Honda got it right: 27mpg, 120hp per liter, beautiful lines, great handling, Honda reliability, what else could you ask for? Plus, the fact that an automatic isn't even offered means it's gotta be good. enjoy,
JASON
Hurry up and get rid of that Miata--those cars are for chics and fags.
