Thumbs up ABS malfunction?

Has anyone been able to get the ABS to malfunction with the addition of different offset rims or same size tires all around or any way?

I'm just wondering what kind of latitude we have.

Everything you read says there is only a narrow window of operation or set of operational parameters on an ABS system.

In mags and on other forums I have read about people changing tire sizes and having their ABS crap out on them. And yet here I have seen pics of guys stuffing monster rims and tires under the wheel wells, non staggered sizes, etc. with no apparent detriment to the operation of the ABS.

So, is the Honda ABS special or have I just missed all those posts? Search of course turns up nothing.

I've had a couple of different size rims at the track and the ABS engaged "loud and clear" with all of them

I think what your seeing there is that the tires over all height is staying within the abs's settings. If you look at the stock tire size's they are the same height within a fraction of an inch. When someone goes on a ap2 for instance runs the same size tire in the front and back, then the tires are sstill the same size. That would mean that the abs isn't going to pick up anything funny with differnt wheel speeds.

just my 2 cents.

I understand that most people are shooting for the same diameters as stock, but I've seen pics of cars with tires of obviously different diameters than stock.

When you run same size tires front and rear that gives a different stagger & diameter than stock and I haven't heard any horror tales about ABS malfing.

Many other forums talk about ABS issues (subie is one) from what I would consider relatively minor changes in rims/tires.

I have been running tires with about an inch larger diameter in the rear and about half an inch shorter in the fronts with no issues whatsoever, but that seems to be enough to trigger issues on some other brands.

I am about to do some mods that will allow me to run quite different offset rims and a change in offset is one of the things that seems to trigger ABS issues. I want to keep ABS so I am wondering what, if anything, has triggered ABS issues on the S heretofor.

And Alejo, just because the ABS has engaged, doesn't mean it is working properly. It seems that other brands have had the ABS engage but stopping distances, stopping in a straight line, CELs, & all kinds of things develop when you go outside the parameters of the computer code.

I am hoping this lack of publicized ABS issues means ours is more tolerant than some other brands.

It has engaged and prevented me from locking up and sliding past the corner.

Whether it has engaged and reacted less precisely is possible I suppose.

If you couldn't tell the difference then there probably wasn't a difference or not enough to call it malfunctioning.

As I understand it, once you exceed the design parameters you'll notice the difference - apparently always to your detriment.
