Default Abuse....

Just sitting here at work, and watching S2000 vids on youtube. There are a LOT of vids of guys rippin on their cars. F1 style burnouts... rev limiter shifts... etc.

So.... I am extremely mechanically enclined, and understand anything mechanical, but I just thought I would throw this out there to get opinions....

What kind of "abuse" can the AP1, or AP2 take. Now by this I mean rev limiter fairly frequently, Stiff launches with spinning the tires, Burnouts etc. More so the limiter stuff. Lets assume that everytime you wind it out, you tap the limiter.

What would be considered too much for the car? They seem to hold up rather well from what I have seen. I know a few people with Z06 Corvettes, and they drive the piss out of them on a regular basis, and no problems. Burnouts, clutch drops at 4-5 grand, rev limiters ALL the time etc.

Just looking for some opinions to go with mine. I keep reminding myself that the Z06, S2000, and cars alike, are really high performance machines, so with that in mind, when they build and design the car, this is always on their minds. Not like say a Toyota Yaris, yet I have proved that car bullet proof! Limiter, 180* ebrake spins, clutch drops, and as performace driven as say a Yaris could be. 45000km on the clock so far, and NOTHING wrong with the car. Ticks away like a fine swiss watch. The car takes anything I throw at it and then some.

It is a remarkably tough car.

IMHO:
The revlimiter won't do anything to the car, other than be annoying reminder that you don't have more power.

The rear diff is still the weak point for cowboying. Change the fluid often and with synthetic.

The cluch can be a significant weak point, but it also protects the weak diff. Look up the CDV threads.

The ebrake won't harm anything but your tire budget (but see above).

But for stunting, this really is not your car.

Dont get me wrong.... im not going to be "stunting" by any means, BUT, I do drive spirited and with intent! This is a second car, summer only, so when I drive it.... I drive it! I do NOT want to do what these fellas on youtube do, but just curious to see how many people get away with this kind of stuff. As for the CDV.... bought a 03 slave, and when summer comes, is one of the first things thats going! As for the diff.... gonna price one out now, just for giggles. I really do think that they are stronger then ppl give them credit for. Didnt they change something for AP2? I was under the impression they beefed it up.

they put in a more torquey motor, although you lose 1000 rpms, and changed suspension. they made it more comfortable as a daily driver as well. it is all preference. i prefer the ap1 as it gives me a more f1 racey feel, where as the ap2 gives me more of an everyday honda feel.

No, no.... I know all that... I mean drivetrain wise. I was under the impression they strengthened driveline components.

I've had the same diff on other cars and it is definitely not overbuilt. It has been improved, but it is still a very small volume case under significant load. Frankly if you don't do drop clutch burnouts or shock load it in turns with R-tires, you should be fine.

your diff is fragile - i'd protect the diff as much as possible.

the motor will be fine.

if you're paranoid...check the retainers periodically to see if they're cracked or if the valve stem appears to be higher than others.

Check the retainers in an AP2? I thought that wasnt an issue in the new motor. As for the diff....

I think my Honda dealer, or honda in general is smokin crack!

$5400 cad for a complete diff! If that is the actual price, Ill throw out the car and buy a new one !

if you don't over-rev, you should be fine.

Click on my sig and see the video links, if properly done, you can push the S2000 to the limit (rev limit shifts, 2nd+3rd gear chirping, launching at 6K with fair amount of wheelspin)
