Default Ac diagnostic

Hey fellow S2k lovers.

i recently imported a 99 AP1 from Japan now that i finally been driving it i got a cel for 02 sensor , but also noticed my ac when at idle is kinda stagnant but when driving gets cold cold, what should i look into first ?

also i noticed the car has a lil light/idle flicker and surge but when i put the ac on it doesn’t surge.i had the alternator checked it is good , brand new battery also like less then 2 months old.

And one more thing. My key fob when i try and lock/unlock the doors you can hear things trying to happen but doesn’t lock or unlock. Think maybe just need new actuator motors ?

thank you guys in advance.

My AP1 has the same problem. The Honda dealer in Seattle "couldn't reproduce the problem," so I still haven't gotten it fixed. What I noticed is that warm days or cold days are different. Sometimes the door locks actually work. Another thing I noticed is that when they work, they might quickly relock! That's the weirdest symptom.

I'll be following this thread to see what the resolution is.

I seem to remember a Technical Note about the ground wires in the door. There was a hint that poor grounding prevents the actuators for getting full current, and that's why you hear something but the doors stay locked.

Does this site have an archive of Honda Technical Notes for the S2000? That might be worth searching for these common problems.

Most convenient source for Tech Notes appears to be S2000 Club

.
My S does the same as far as the doors locking themselves. I have had it happen out of nowhere after the car has been sitting. I stored it one winter at a high end restoration shop and told the owner not to leave the keys in it as the doors lock by themselves occasionally and he said that there are other makes of cars that do this.

Ah, there are two variations on this, and I can't remember if my S2000 does both.

One version is by design. If the cars starts out with the doors locked, and you use the remote to unlock them, but never actually open the doors, then some number of seconds later, the doors will automatically re-lock themselves. In this case, it never happens from a starting point of the doors being unlocked. The idea is that if you unintentionally unlock the doors with the remote, but don't actually use them, then the assumption is that you want the car to remain locked. I discovered this because I would unlock the doors, then open the trunk to place items in the trunk, but by the time I got around to closing the trunk and walking to the door, they had re-locked.

The other behavior that I described is when the doors re-lock instantly. I'm talking about how I'm always close enough to see the lights flash when I click the remote - I can also see the internal light turn on, but when I reach out for the door handle, the doors re-lock. After noticing that, I'd wait until the last minute to unlock, and yet still sometimes I was too slow. This is not by design. Either the timer being used for the feature above is running way too fast, or some other issue is occurring. Since my remote lock mechanism seems to be acting strangely anyway, I'm not sure how to figure this one out.

For the AC, did you look around your AC lines near connections to see if there are any signs of a leak?
