Default Accident

Leaving a local hotel at around midnight, I gunned it a little out of the stoplight showing off. unfortunately I didn't think that the ground was damp and the tires were cold, and the rear end came around on me abruptly. I corrected but overdid it, spun back the other way, and struck the curb hard at about 15-20 MPH with the right rear wheel. I was able to get to the other side of the intersection and put on my hazard blinkers, but when i looked at the damage my heart sank. The wheel canted out with about 15 degrees of positive camber and the toe link seemed broken. the Rotor is shattered and the wheel is torn up. the tire is unusable. Also, the hood won't close properly and this makes me worry that maybe there is driveline and differential damage that isn't readily apparent. I've heard stories of things like this happening before to others, and before you start bitching at me I realize that what happened is my fault and was stupid. I failed to account for outside factors that limited my ability to use the S2K's abilities. that said, has anyone suffered a similar accident? Thankfully, no one was hurt and no other cars were involved. (it was a low curb, so there is no body damage to the rocker panel or rear fascia; only the wheel gives any indicationt hat it happened at all.) What kind of damage do you think I did? how much will it cost? Sh*t happens....I just feel so bad about it. My S didn't deserve this....

W/o seeing the damage it is hard to give a ballpark estimate. Good luck getting it all put back together.

Gun in haste, repent in leisure.

Glad to know that you weren't hurt.

Wait, you hit the curb with the right rear, but the hood won't close correctly? Hopefully you didn't bend the frame. Not many people here will be qualified to give an estimate based on a written description. Just wait and see what the dealer tells you.

I'll give you a estimate based on my knowledge, which is about 5k easily. In the end it should rougly come out 5-7k. How you ask? Buddy spun his car, his front end suspension was gone, wheel was gone, for everything to be replaced and not repair it was 5k.

Remember you want everything replaced and not repaired unless it's cheaper to buy aftermarket such as wheel. Honda wheel comes out $400.00.

The estimate was based on the extreme case and base on your experience. If you have questions, PM QT_S2K he's the friend who had it happen to.

Did the same thing with my Mustang. Damn + cold tires = spin out.

Though I "only" broke an axle and a rim. Thank God there weren't any cars around!

I dont think the hood has anything to do with this. Maybe you are just not closing it correctly. S2K hoods can be a bitch.

Anyhow, im sorry to hear about your mishap, sometimes we learn the hard way

I dont think your damage will be too crazy, but expect atleast 2k of damage. The rear is easier and cheaper to fix as long as you didnt damage your diff and axles. Since you were able to limp to the other side, im suspecting at alteast the diff is ok which is a good thing.

Good luck

Well, my buddy did basically the same thing in his 2000 BMW M Coupe. He was in front of me taking the turn kind of fast. It was cold out but not that cold and basically just started our cars about 5 minutes earlier. We both took the turn pretty fast. I was okay but his car just started to slide. He over corrected, spun the other way and hit the curb. His axel was completely gone. The rims gone and even his diff was cracked. I think that his ended up costing about 6k (since there was some body damage as well) but his insurance covered it. Now his car looks better than ever. He ended up getting that shop that he took it to get wider stock looking rims. So now he has 275's in the back and 245's in the front. Looks way better than before. Anyway, here is the thread

I took a turn too fast and jumped a pretty nice sized curb and screwed up pretty much the entire underside of my car. Sounds similar to your accident. It took my car almost a month to be fixed and had almost 5K in damage...

Good luck.
