I've spun my car before and had to repaint my rear bumper and and quarter panel. Thankfully, didn't hurt the car much.

It really does take this type of incident for owner to open up their eyes. Attending auto-x events and HPDE track events is very helpful.

After the accident, I have lost much of my confidence but regained it gradually each time after attending HPDE events.

Good luck to you.

Thank you everyone for being supportive in this. As you can tell, any more derogation and I'd pretty much give up... I'm depressed as any of you would be in the same position.

This is my first time dinging the S2, I've only had it for 2 months. My first accident was in my mother's Miata...

I really need practice with counter-steering. That's my biggest flaw. When I get my car back, I will be taking it slow for sure. It sucks that it took $6,000 and nearly 3-4 weeks to make me realize it. But this summer I will attend some classes.

Thanks again, you've all actually eased the pain.

[QUOTE=Will,Jan 6 2005, 08:54 PM] Let's do some math.

A collision claim may raise your rates $30 or so per month depending on what you're paying now, what insurance company you have, etc.

I want to also add that these body shops bill out retail costs to the insurance company but actually have a discount in place. You just don't get the discount. That is more profit for them too. That is part of the reason they don't get used parts unless they are more of a used parts repair place. But I wouldn't want used parts, I would want all brand new.

hell, i'm in my early thirties, married for 10 years, 2 kids, clean-as-a-whistle driving record, and i couldn't even get away with just an additional 400 bucks after a collision claim.
I had my accident on my 26th birthday. I had been with the same insurance company for 10 years, and I presently have insurance for 2 cars plus renter's insurance with them. My only previous claim was for a theft in 1998. When I made my claim for my accident (remember the $21K repair bill), my rates went up $8 per month (less than $100 per year).

I don't expect this guy would have the same good fortune, but anything is possible.

^ in canada, theft is not considered "at fault" (obviously), and has nothing to do with your driving (obviously).
