.Advice on break-in period.
Have you driven a rear wheel drive sports car before?
This car can do things you would not guess very fast and experience or training in handling its muscle is a good idea.
Take a one day on-the-track performance driving course. It will put you miles ahead of most of us on this board, no matter what our age.

After the 600 mile break-in period do not attempt to get in to VTEC until 3 bars register on the temp gage. I drive mine for about 5 minutes past 3 bars before I will VTEC, this does take a lot of self control, and this ensures the oil is warm and flowing!

Scheister-Mine didn't use a drop even at 1500 miles, then I took a 1000 mile road trip and ran it fast the whole way up a lot of mountian roads and have now used just under a quart in 3000 miles. Phil
Get the car up to 5500 rpms in sixth gear on a empty highway and then let completely off the gas. Do this whenever you can during the first 600 miles. It helps seat the rings. Always vary your speeds. Easy on the acceleration and easy on the brakes.
This is very interesting. I got my car in December too and have just hit 800 miles. I started VTEC'ing after the 600 mile break-in. It doesn't seem to have consumed one drop of oil. The oil still shows on the stick exactly where it was the first time that I checked it. I wonder if this is good or bad. Why would it be so different from one car to the other? Should I expect it to start consuming oil in the near future? [/B][/QUOTE]
Not sure why it varies so much but I consider you lucky. The amount of oil my car drank made me extremly nervous that I had a leak or something. However, after topping the oil off, the oil level has stabilized. Just make sure to check often. I remeber to have gone through one-two X notches in just one day of driving.

Yep, the oil consumption does seem to vary alot. We bought our red S with 3,000 miles on it and it has never used oil, even under track use.

I'll be interested to compare to my new '02 when it arrives. I'm dreading the 600-mile "no VTEC" period, but happy that I'll be the first owner.
